Weekly Capsule 41.3: One Of Those Days

You wouldn’t know it looking at these photos, but it rained pretty heavily just that morning (I took the photos in the afternoon, after I got home from work). So heavily, in fact, that it pretty much threw half the city into chaos – there was a 2-mile long traffic jam on one of our thoroughfares because everywhere else is flooded. It wreaked havoc on my day, too. First of all, I couldn’t bike in such heavy rain, so I had to hitch a ride with my dad. Then, when I got to work, I found out our classroom was flooded from a leaky roof, so I had to gather my students into the teacher’s lounge. I was going to show a movie but the TV in the teacher’s lounge was not working, so I had to let them go early. Finally, because I didn’t bike, I had to take the bus home, and I’m telling you, taking the bus during rush hour from a stop in front of three big universities is no fun.

Back in LA I used to scoff at people for freaking out over a bit of rain, but now I know why.

Wow Salazar… Sorry to hear that your day was so crappy… Believe me when I say that I know what it’s like to have to travel by bus in all kinds of crappy weather. I’ve been riding the bus for 13 years (you’ve probably figured out that I don’t drive) and have experienced everything, from heavy rain to snow storms and blizzards to just plain hot days when it’s 90 degrees + or super cold days when its -35 out and having to walk like 2 miles to a stop. Okay, I’m exaggerating about the 2 miles part, but in bad weather, those short walks to the bus stops can feel like 2 miles. Akron has thrown at me all sorts of crazy weather over the years and yet somehow, I managed to survive and not get a heat stroke, frost bite, hypothermia, or pneumonia. Although one time, I got the flu because I stood outside at a stop in frigid cold rain for 15 minutes; not fun… AND THE FREAKIN’ BUS WAS LATE!!!

  2. Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. I love the skirt. It has a nice twirl!
