“It’s got flaps. Ear flaps. It’s an ear-hat, John!”

The quote in the title will mean nothing to you if you haven’t seen the second season of BBC’s Sherlock. You’ll have to wait until May, when PBS airs the show in the US, to find out. I, on the other hand, couldn’t wait that long 😛 Not to spoil it, but Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have outdone themselves. When I first saw the clips, I thought their interpretation of Irene Adler was a little expected, but I was very happy with how the episode turned out. And I cheered when the deerstalker made its debut.

So today I brought out my own deerstalker for the ABC’s of Style, “T for Tomboy.” I find it interesting that my outfit would look perfectly fine on any man a hundred years ago, but nowadays it’s mostly women that dress like this (minus the deerstalker, of course.) It’s not that I wish cravats and top hats were back in fashion (wouldn’t it be fun if they were though?), it’s just funny how style has changed.

Shirt: Target; Pants: Urban Outfitters
Boots, belt, blazer & deerstalker (damn it, it breaks my “b” streak): thrifted
Tie: sash from a dress

Suspenders

Today’s outfit is inspired by this outfit of Solanah from Vixen Vintage (who, in turn, is inspired by a Lulu Letty‘s post and her dapper as hell husband. Oh what a tangle web of inspiration we fashion bloggers weave :D)

Yeah, that’s pretty much all I have for today. Some days I’m just not very eloquent (or have nothing to ramble about, depending on how you look at it.)

Shirt: thrifted, remixed
Skinny: Urban Outfitters, remixed
Oxfords: Sidecca, remixed
Deerstalker: thrifted
Suspenders: thrifted from Buffalo Exchange (another purchase thanks to Debbi. She convinced me that I needed a pair of hot-pink suspenders.)

Elementary, My Dear Watson

I’ve planned an entirely different outfit today, but nature has other idea. So here’s what I wore instead:

I know the brown of the belt and the brown of the boots don’t match, but… ah, f**k it.

See that? A deerstalker cap! I’m actually not that big a fan of Sherlock Holmes (except for the series with Jeremy Brett and of course the new, wonderful BBC’s Sherlock), so I planned to buy this cap for another friend (who is a Sherlock Holmes fan), but then when I tried it on I thought, “Oh it’s mine now!” I’ve been waiting for it to get cool enough to wear it (it’s thick wool), and today it finally is.

Dress/Tunic: Urban Outfitters, remixed
Skinny: H&M, remixed
Boots: Reflection, remixed
Belt: Wet Seal
Cap: thrifted (some UK brand, the tag says it’s made in Britain)

*Trivia facts: Holmes never actually said “Elementary, my dear Watson” in the books, only in the movies. Also, Arthur Conan Doyle never described him wearing a deerstalker cap, it was all the illustrator.
