SIA Inspiration: Victo Ngai
Posted: August 30, 2021 Filed under: Style Imitating Art | Tags: style imitating art 2 CommentsIt’s Daenel’s turn to host SIA, and here is her pick:
This is the work of Hong Kong-based illustrator Victo Ngai. Daenel picked it simply because she loves pearls, but what she didn’t know is that I love Victo Ngai – I first came across her illustrations on Tor.com (she works a lot in sci-fi/fantasy) and have been trying to find a piece to feature on SIA, but most of them are very intricate, and as usual, when I find an artist I love, it’s difficult to pick just one! This particular piece is the illustration for the novella “Serving Fish” by Christopher Caldwell, and from what I can find, it’s a retelling of “The Fisherman and the Golden Fish” featuring a drag queen. Doesn’t that sound amazing? And of course, the artwork is gorgeous too.
So put an outfit together, and don’t forget to send it to Daenel (livingoutsidethestacks@gmail.com) by next Tuesday, September 7th. Have fun!
Oh how fun! I already have some ideas whirling around in my head!
