My SIA co-hosts and I have decided to give SIA a break, since it’s the holiday and everything. The challenge will resume on Monday, January 5th, and it’s my turn to curate, so be sure to drop by in two weeks to see what I’ve picked as inspiration!
In the meantime, I’m still trying to get the most out of my capsule wardrobe, before moving on to a new experiment for the new year (I haven’t decided yet, but I’m leaning very strongly toward weekly capsules.)
Dress: Gap (thrifted), Cardigan & Boots: local shop, Scarf: gift, Tights: Target
This is another vest I got from my mom. I have no idea how to style it, though. When I was playing around with it, it somehow ended up around my neck, so I decided to roll it up into a circle scarf (plus I’ve always wanted to try turning a sweater into a scarf after seeing it on Kate of The Perpetual Student’s Wife.) Looks a little bit like I’m being eaten alive by a wool donut though, doesn’t it?
This is what the vest actually looks like, if you guys have any suggestion on how to style it:
T-shirt & Cardigan: Forever21, Scarf/Vest: vintage
Jeans: Charlotte Russe, Oxfords: thrifted via Buffalo Exchange
If I were a fashion critic looking at this outfit, I would say that I like the idea, but not the execution. The pants could be longer, the sweater could be more slouchy, the boots could be in a color that actually goes (black would be nice), and the scarf is trying too hard. But I posted it anyway because maybe you guys can help me improve it – isn’t that a part of fashion blogging?
Anyway, the Golden Globes. I missed red carpet so I would have to rely on Tom & Lorenzo for the fashion recap, but from what I could see during the ceremony there was no real disaster. Too much mermaid hair, maybe, but other than that everybody looked OK, or, in the case of Lucy Liu, f**king fantastic. As for the awards themselves… well, here are some that I care enough to have an opinion: I’m happy that Argo won, not happy that Les Mis won (the only Les Mis adaptation I’ll accept is the 1972 French mini series, thank you very much), not convinced that Brave won (yes I know it’s Pixar, but it’s not up to par with their usual stuff at all.) Oh and, do they have to nominate Meryl Streep every single year?
Sweater: hand-me-down from my sister, Pants: Karen Kane (thrifted & altered by me)
Scarf: gift, Brooch: vintage, Boots: Steve Madden (thrifted)
See, what did I say? It was warm yesterday only for the cold to return with a vengeance today, so much so that I had to bring out my coat for the first time this season. It’s been a while since I wore something monochromatic, so I thought it would be fun (well, “fun” for me. I’m easily amused) to do a matchy-matchy outfit again.
I wore this on a shopping trip, looking for a new pair of boots to replace this pair, which are really beyond saving. No luck though – none of the shops I went to has a pair of knee-high, flat boots. It was like they think all people who wear knee-high boots are dominatrices or something, because all the knee-high boots I saw have stiletto heels that can stab your eyes out. Oh well. Better luck next season. Or maybe by next season I won’t feel the need for a pair of brown riding boots anymore (yeah, right.)
Jeans: Target, Sweater: Fedora Boutique, Boots: thrifted
Scarf: knitted by my friend, Coat: Loft (thrifted)
