Rabbit Hunt

I wore this outfit before I picked “Dogs Playing Poker” as the inspiration for this week’s SIA, but it would work pretty well for SIA too, wouldn’t it? If the painting had feature rabbits instead of dogs, that is…

Anyway, on an unrelated note, today is the last day of work before my long winter/Lunar New Year break, and I’m taking a pretty exciting 2-week trip (more on that later), but I’m not going to be able to post during that time. I will schedule all the outfits I have backlogged on my computer and all the SIA challenges if possible, but if not, expect things to be a little quiet around here during the last two weeks of February. See ya!

A Bold Bluff

My interpretation of this week’s SIA painting, “A Bold Bluff” by C.M. Coolidge, is pretty self-explanatory. I chose my sweater and my jacket for their textures and colors to mimic the colors and textures of the dogs’ furs, and my jeans and my scarf are to mimic the colors of the table, the walls and the drapes (even though my jeans are more purple-red than maroon.) Simple.

I did try to get my dogs to pose with me, but they were being less than cooperative. Isn’t that always the way? They’re constantly photobombing me whenever I try to get a “clean” shot, but the moment I want them in the photos with me, they suddenly become camera-shy. Well, not actually camera-shy, because one of them was really mugging for the camera. Like so:

Her poker face needs some work

Guess she just didn’t want to compete with me for the spotlight.

Don’t forget to check back on Wednesday for the full round-up of other outfits!

All About The Socks

I wasn’t feeling very sartorically creative these days, what with the busy schedule, the dreary weather, and an impromptu shopping ban (I wasn’t planning on having a shopping ban, I just haven’t gone shopping in so long), so here is a very basic outfit. I tried to jazz it up with a pair of colorful socks but I’m not sure it worked. My legs are too short to be broken up into three different sections like that. It looks a bit try-hard, doesn’t it?

Miss Claus

So this is my official Christmas outfit. I did wear my red and green outfit to a Christmas pageant, but this I wore on the actual Christmas Day. Except for the boots, the silhouette is pretty similar to the last time I wore this sweater, but its downy texture and bright white color that just scream “Christmas” to me. I guess I could be Santa’s daughter or granddaughter or something. I mean, I played an elf in a Christmas play back in high school so it’s definitely a step-up for me.

Betty Frost

The almost all-white color scheme of the outfit makes me think of Emma Frost, while the full skirt reminds me of Betty Draper (back when she was still Betty Draper, that is.) I also feel like there’s a January Jones reference to be made here… but damned if I can figure out what it would be.

I’m getting more comfortable with the whole “dressing up just to sit in front of the computer” thing. I used to do it all the time back in the US, felt weird about it once I moved home, and now I’m OK with it again. Might as well embrace it while I can, because think about it – to what office can I wear a quilted circle skirt embroidered with tiny dancers in rainbow colors?
