A Woman Of Simple Pleasures

Sorry I still haven’t been able to post as regularly as I’d like – I actually have enough material for 4-5 posts/week now, but next week I’m going on another 10-day work trip, and I want to save some posts so the blog won’t have to go on hiatus while I’m gone. So here’s a simple outfit to end the week (and the reason for the title – it’s after a song by Kasabian) and I’ll see you guys next week, even if I’m not here 😉

Cloud 9

Believe it or not, the starting point for this SIA outfit, inspired by the space tourism poster of Venus, is my necklace. Doesn’t it look exactly like the design of the ” Cloud 9 Observatory” on the poster? After that, it’s just a matter of grabbing the pieces with the right colors – no blush or millennial pink for me, but these tan wide-leg pants and my sandals are close enough, I think.

Don’t forget to check back on Wednesday for the full round-up of all outfits (and some other things) inspired by this poster. It’s going to be fun!

Sandal Time

We’re having our first heat wave of the year, and normally I would grumble about how hot it is, but this year, I’m actually excited as the weather warms up because it means I could bring out my warm-weather clothes. Winter wasn’t particularly long or even particularly cold this year, but for some reason, I was getting tired of my winter wardrobe a lot earlier than usual.

Of course, it helps that I got a new pair of sandals. They fit the “black sandals” hole in my closet; they have wedge heels so they can be dressed up while still being comfy, and they go with everything. I say that’s a winner. Also, they kept my outfit simple and monochromatic – between the lace texture of the tee and the print on the skirt, the outfit is busy enough.

Hello From Singapore

singapore outfit by 14 shades of grey

Just a quick post to let you guys know my week in Singapore is going well. It’s been raining almost every day, so it’s a lot cooler than I expected. I could’ve worn jeans if I wanted to! Still, I didn’t regret my packing strategy – I have plenty of choices for mix-and-match. The above outfit is a good sampler of what I wear most days (often I would have to add my blazer as well, because like I said, Singaporeans like their AC set to “arctic”.) I actually left a pair of sandals at home – three pairs of shoes are plenty – and I didn’t miss them at all.

I’m pretty busy with my students in classes and on excursions so I won’t be able to post much in the next two weeks, but there will be SIA posts on Monday as usual. See you guys!

Day To Night

I wore this last Friday, when I had a full day of teaching and went to the theater at night – my co-workers got free tickets to a theater festival in Hanoi, so I thought it would be fun to check it out. I wanted to dress up a bit for the theater, but not too much, because I knew I would have to be in the clothes for 10+ hours. In the end I decided on something simple, comfy, but put-together enough that you could wear on a night out.

T-shirt: Banana Republic, Blazer: Warehouse, Pants: thrifted, Shoes: local shop, Brooch: gift (an interesting story behind this brooch – it was made from a piece of rubble from an old museum in Greifswald and sold as souvenir after the building was renovated. My sister just went there for a business trip and bought it for me.)
