Has anybody else experienced unseasonable weather this year? It has been stupidly warm for us this past month – granted, we never have much of a fall anyway, but I’ve looked at my archives from last year and saw that by the end of October, I had at least started to wear long-sleeved tops and scarves and cardigans. This year, November is approaching and yet the temperature refuses to go below 90’s, and I’m still sweating in my T-shirts and linen pants. I even tempted fate by dressing like it’s the height of summer – white jeans, my “rain” shirt, and sandals – to see if I could provoke the weather into remembering that it’s supposed to cool down, but no luck so far. Ugh…

Put this meme under “Things Only A Teacher Would Understand”:
I can totally relate to that. I’ve been a TA/teacher for three years now, and every year, as the end of May rolls around, I begin counting down the days until vacation starts. For the students the semester actually ended last Friday, but of course for us there is still plenty of work left. I had to sit on the thesis committee yesterday, and a stack of scripts still wait on my desk to be read and graded. Hopefully I can get everything done by the end of the week.
This will be one of the few breaks when I don’t have anything to catch up on – I’ve finished my latest translation, and my weekend film making workshop will also be done by the end of June. On the other hand, I have a pretty exciting trip planned for the summer (I will tell you guys about it in due course), so there is that to look forward to.
In the meantime, I’m staying comfy in these casual clothes.
P/S: I waited until after Memorial Day to wear white. Am I a good style blogger or what?

I’m not feeling very up to it today. On the one hand, the summer has been going on for too long and I’m excited that the new semester will start in two weeks. On the other hand, I am not ready to go back to work at all, because I’ve been working so much all through summer that it doesn’t feel like much of a vacation. Maybe I need a break. Like a real break, travel-to-somewhere-else break, and not just a “staycation”. But it’s kind of late now, and with the monsoon rain arriving, it’s not safe either. Oh well.

My looks this week:
Today’s outfit is super simple and doesn’t inspire any interesting writing, so I’m going to talk about something else. The other day, I just read on a style forum some comments criticizing a blogger for not having a pedicure. A pedicure, I tell you! To be fair, other commenters are quick to defend the blogger – the consensus is that the nails only need to be clean and healthy. But it got me thinking. Is that what you have to do to be presentable now? I’m not just talking about style bloggers; I mean everyday people too. Does every woman have to primp herself up from literal tips to toes before she can show herself lest the world recoils at her unpainted nails and bare face? Because I don’t. I’ve never even painted my nails. I don’t wear make-up, save for the occasional swipe of tinted lip balm. My hair takes less than thirty seconds to “style”. I’m not a slob, but I’m very much of the opinion that as long as your appearance is clean and tidy, you don’t need anything else.
This is not a dig at anyone who likes to put a lot of efforts into their appearances, you understand. I’m just kind of baffled that someone would expect such efforts from other people (or, more exactly, other women. Men don’t have to deal with that shit, do they?)

My brooch collection has been sadly stagnant ever since I moved home, because not a lot of people wear brooches here and there are even fewer people who sell vintage brooches. So that’s why when I saw this brooch at an accessory shop, I had to grab it right away – who knows when I’ll find another one. I know it’s not vintage, but for a self-proclaimed cat lady like me, it’s perfect, so who cares. Oh and, I’m adding it to my Top 10 as well (I have now picked two skirts, one top, one dress, and two accessories, which means I still have 4 more pieces to go.) Come on, a cat-shaped brooch? That is so me.
