It’s not until I put up these photos that I realized this outfit was essentially a more casual take on another outfit I wore last month. The colors are the same – I just swapped the blouse for a T-shirt and the pumps for a pair of flats. I actually much prefer this outfit. The T-shirt is more fitted so it balances out the relaxed silhouette of the pants, and the flats look more proportionate with these pants than the pumps too. And this was just something I literally threw on for running errands, as opposed to an outfit that I agonize over. It just goes to show, when it comes to style, sometimes instinct works better.
This is the last of my work outfits from the semester. I almost didn’t post this because I wasn’t wild about the outfit, but I’m running out of material to post, so I figure beggars can’t be choosers. See, I was going for this kind of loose silhouette I see on so many Japanese fashion blogs, but I don’t think I pulled it off with my body type. I guess I’ll just stick to the more classic “loose + fitted” silhouette from now on.
The weather is warming up again (for the last time this season, I hope), so here are two simple looks. As the post title says, these are both inspired by Japanese street style – not any outfit in particular, but by several style blogs that I’ve been following. I used to be drawn to the classic silhouettes, bright colors, and all the patterns of vintage style (1940’s – 1950’s, to be exact), but now, while I still like looking at them, I don’t really want to wear them anymore. Instead, I prefer minimalism and more relaxed silhouettes, which is almost the exact opposite of vintage style. It’s funny how that changes, right?
The weather has been absolutely crazy lately – pouring one minute, then blazing sun the next, then pouring again. I think it’s because this is the transition time between summer and fall. At least my transitional outfit is not crazy, if I do say so myself. The fit and the fabric are summery, but the colors are autumnal, so it’s perfect for this time. The wide-leg pants might not work so well in the rain, but since today looks dry at least, it’s OK.
Disclaimer: this isn’t actually my intended SIA outfit.
I had put together a different SIA outfit earlier last week, but when I wore this on Friday, I realized that it was perfect for SIA – the title of the inspiration painting may say “Variations in Violet and Grey“, but it looks more like navy and beige to me (probably because the watercolors had aged). I would’ve worn my beige sandals as well, but one of the buckles broke, so they’re currently at the cobbler’s getting fixed. I’m going to post my “other” outfit tomorrow too, but really, it pales in comparison.
And that means you guys still have until tomorrow to send me your outfits, if you haven’t already. The full round-up will be posted on Wednesday instead!
