Circle Of Nerds
Posted: November 19, 2013 Filed under: Clothes, Remix | Tags: black, black cardigan, black riding boots, embroidered scarf, khaki blazer, navy skinny jeans, take one pass it on, white 2 CommentsYesterday I talked about how I miss thrifting, but you know what I miss most about LA? Having friends with whom I can discuss movies and TV shows. Especially now that the holiday season has started and all these big movies are coming out. That may sound weird considering that I’m working at a film school, but none of my co-workers are film buffs in the same way that I am, the way that my friends in LA are. My co-workers don’t get excited about Catching Fire coming out next week, they would never consider using The Avengers to teach a class on writing an ensemble cast (which is what I’m planning to do), and they certainly won’t scream when they find out Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is going to be a movie. Even the students, who may be more in touch, aren’t that passionate about those fandoms. I can still talk to my friends on Facebook, of course, but it’s not the same. I’m thinking that when the new season of Sherlock premieres in January, we may have to have a Skype viewing session…
P/S: I’m going to be wearing a variation of this blazer + skinny jeans + boots combination pretty much all winter along. It just works, so why mess with it, right?
My cat looks like she’s in The Office. “Can you believe she’s doing this photo again?“

Mod
Posted: November 18, 2013 Filed under: Clothes, Remix, Style Imitating Art | Tags: black, black cardigan, brown riding boots, red, red striped dress, style imitating art, take one pass it on, tights 4 CommentsI have been going through thrifting withdrawal since I moved home, so I try to feed it by raiding my mom and my sister’s closets, which sometimes can yield a gem like this 60’s mod dress. Granted, it is a bit small around the shoulder and neck for me (if I button it up all the way I won’t be able to breath) and the material is only appropriate for late fall/winter, but it’s a true vintage piece, it’s in perfect condition, and it’s striped – how can I pass it up?
Plus, it’s great for this week’s SIA outfit, inspired by James Tissot’s portrait of Colonel Frederick Gustavus Barnaby. My dress, leggings, and cardigan represent the dominant black and red color scheme, of course, while my boots (which are also my Take One, Pass It On item – I know I’ve been wearing them a lot; I think it’s to make up for last season when I couldn’t find a pair of brown riding boots) and the gold buttons on the dress can be counted as subtle, military-inspired nods to the Colonel’s uniform.
Don’t forget to head to Jen’s blog to see how everybody else does!

Wrinkled
Posted: November 14, 2013 Filed under: Clothes, Remix | Tags: black, black jeans, blue, brooch, brown, brown riding boots, navy linen blazer, pink blouse, take one pass it on 3 CommentsDay 2 of Take One, Pass It On! Sorry my blazer is such a wrinkled mess, but it’s linen, so short of not moving my arms at all, there really is no way I can keep it smooth.
Anyway, the arrow pin is because I just found out that Catching Fire is getting a release here in Vietnam, which makes me extremely happy, even if it’s my least favorite book out of the trilogy. The books were still translated and published in Vietnamese, but the first movie was banned from the theaters here (since it features kid-on-kid violence, I can understand why they got squeamish about it, even though banning it is totally missing the point of the movie.) It was a good thing I managed to catch it before I moved.

Take One, Pass It On 2.0
Posted: November 13, 2013 Filed under: Clothes, Remix | Tags: blue, brooch, brown ankle boots, navy linen blazer, navy skinny jeans, navy striped top, take one pass it on 1 CommentBack in March I did a challenge called Take One, Pass It On by Sarah’s Real Life, where you take an item from an outfit, be it a piece of clothing or accessories, and rewear it the next day, and keep doing it for an entire month. Sarah has started the challenge again for the month of November, and I decided to participate again, because I remember now how easy it is to put together an outfit when you already have an item to build on.
So my first “pass it on” item are these ankle boots. When I first thrifted them I didn’t wear them much, but now I’m beginning to see how versatile they can be. Sadly, they’re literally falling apart, so maybe I’ll have to look for a replacement pair soon. And here I thought my quest for boots is done…

TOPIO The Finale
Posted: March 29, 2013 Filed under: Clothes, Remix | Tags: belt, black pointed-toe flats, blue, navy skirt, take one pass it on, yellow, yellow polka dot blouse 5 CommentsIt’s the end of March and also the end of Take One, Pass It On. It’s been so fun that I’m tempted to keep on doing it. I rewear stuff all the time, but as a fashion blogger I always feel this pressure not to repeat myself, this nagging thought of “Oh I just wear those jeans yesterday, I should wear something else today then…” Which is silly. And will leave you with a heap of worn-but-not-quite-ready-for-laundry clothes at the end of the week. The TOPIO challenge helps me stop worrying about that.
Shirt: Target (thrifted), Skirt: Banana Republic (thrifted), Belt: Wet Seal, Flats: Payless
And here are all 16 outfits. Big thanks to Sarah for a great challenge!
