To all my US readers, hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving with amazing food and great people. It felt slightly weird going to work yesterday because I spent so much time on the Internet where everybody was like “Thanksgiving! Black Friday!” that I half-expected it to be a holiday here too. Anyway, I went to see Catching Fire on Wednesday night and liked it. I didn’t love it, but then again it took quite a while for the first movie to grow on me, and this book is my least favorite out of the three, so when I wasn’t bored to tears by the movie, it counts as a win in my book. Well, that and the fact that Jena Malone is awesome.
On a more style-related note, this is my last outfit for the Take One, Pass It On challenge. My outfits this round weren’t as diverse as last time, probably because it’s winter and my choices are more limited, but I had great fun with it. Big thanks to Sarah for creating such a fun challenge!

This is going to be very brief because I’m off to the theater to see Catching Fire. Happy Thanksgiving!

Like I said in last Friday post, I’ve been wearing a lot of neutrals lately, and while that’s not a bad thing, I do want some more colors to make my outfit look more cheerful during these grey months. I think another reason why I tend to wear so much neutral stuff these days is because I want to dress more professionally, so I don’t get mistaken for a student anymore 😛 So it’s probably a bit counterproductive that my first venture back into the land of colors is a short, plaid shirt dress that instantly screams “schoolgirl” on me. Oh well. I’ve got to learn to wear colors all over again, so baby steps, right?
The jacket doesn’t really go with anything, I know, but I want to keep the Take One, Pass It On challenge alive.

I debated whether to post this outfit or not, because it’s really nothing remarkable – just another all-neutral look, in the same silhouette I’ve been wearing pretty much all through November. It’s not that I’m a style rut. One of the reasons I reach for this combination and the neutral colors so much may simply be because I’m too busy to figure out which color works with which. Back when I first started the blog, I usually took some time to plan my outfit the evening before, but now, with 5 different reading/writing/translating projects going on, I just grab the first things that are clean, so it’s actually easier to have a silhouette that works and colors that I don’t have to worry about clashing. Although some colors here and there would be nice; it’s been so dreary lately, I don’t need my clothes to look dreary too.

My sister and brother-in-law have moved into their new apartment with an oven and everything, and our family starts to make a habit out of having dinner over there at least once a week. In a weird coincidence/serendipity, yesterday my dad was given a fresh turkey by one of his colleagues, who knows a turkey farmer – turkeys are gaining popularity here. Long story short, we decided to have an early Thanksgiving/Teacher’s Day celebration (November 20th is Teacher’s Day in Vietnam) instead of waiting until the actual Thanksgiving, because a fresh turkey will definitely taste better than a frozen one. And it was. We had turkey, with roasted root vegetables and pumpkin soup – classic Thanksgiving feast. Hopefully we can make this a tradition from now on, because like I always say, we need more food-based holidays in Vietnam 😛
By the way, the outfit is my attempt to recreate this (right down to the photo), but I don’t think I can pull off that “disheveled chic” look. I just end up looking straight-up disheveled. Also, I swear my tights are black, even though they appear purple. I should probably dial back that color correction.
