’86, Baby!

Ever since season 4 of Stranger Things dropped back in late May, I – and most of the world, apparently – have succumbed to the charm of Eddie Munson/Joseph Quinn (because let’s face it, most of Eddie’s charm comes from Joseph’s performance.) I’ve never been invested in Stranger Things – I’m more than a casual viewer, but I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan, and especially with the long gap between season 3 and season 4, my interest had dipped. When season 4 came out, I watched it just to see where the story went. Little did I know I would become obsessed with a character and the actor on a level I haven’t been since Richard Armitage as John Thornton in North & South. I guess the character resonates with me so much because I was pretty much Eddie in high school – I was that combo of nerd and metalhead (I listened to nu-metal, but still), and I was an outsider who reveled in that status because I didn’t feel like I belonged. And yes, his death hit hard (I’m sorry if that’s a spoiler for you, but honestly, unless you’ve been living under a rock…) I rarely cry at movies or TV shows, yet I was pretty much in a daze for an entire weekend after the finale because I was so upset.

So for my birthday, I thought I’d treat myself to a Hellfire T-shirt. The outfit is super simple – it’s not an Eddie cosplay (I’ve never been interested in cosplaying; I prefer to take inspiration from a look and put my own spin on it), but I guess you can say the distressed jeans and the sneakers are a nod to Eddie’s iconic look, and the whole thing is definitely an homage to the character anyway. Eddie, this is for you.

(I actually am an ’86 baby, so it’s perfect)

Dinosaurs

Sometimes, when it’s hot out, and especially if I’m working from home like I do these days, I can’t be bothered to put together an interesting outfit… or anything that can be called an “outfit” at all, really. However, as tempting as it is to spend the entire day in pajamas (or in my case, a ratty oversize T-shirt and linen pants), I find that putting on actual clothes helps put me in a “work” mindset and stop me from procrastinating. So on days like that, an interesting item like this pair of dinosaur-printed culottes goes a long way toward adding some interest to an otherwise unremarkable outfit. My only complaint? No pockets 😦

Quarantine Morning #1

I actually had two outfits for this week’s SIA, inspired by Edward Hopper’s “Carolina Morning” – one inspired by the colors of the entire painting, and another inspired just by the woman in the painting. This, of course, is the one inspired by the entire painting. I picked out the blue and sandy beige of the painting and added a pop of red with my sneakers – simple. It’s the perfect work-from-home outfit too, comfy but still put-together enough.

The other outfit will be posted on Wednesday, so stay tuned. And don’t forget to check Kim’s blog for other interpretations of this painting!

Cookie Monster

Don’t let the sunshine fool you, it’s colder than it looks. Which is why I decided to bring out this jacket, which I dubbed my “Cookie Monster” jacket due to its navy fleece material. I bought it earlier this season, but it’s a little casual for my work clothes (I wore this to a book fair last weekend) so it hasn’t made its appearance on the blog yet. I wish there were some ways to dress it up, because it’s really warm and comfy and I want to wear it more, but I don’t want to be mistaken for a student again. Any ideas?

The Red Shoes

Gods, it seems like a long time since I did an outfit post, doesn’t it? We’ve been having some end-of-the-season cold snaps, so here is a cold-weather outfit. It’s pretty simple, but I want to talk about these shoes for a bit. If you recognize them, that’s because they’re the same shoes I brought with me to Cuba. When I was packing for the trip, I planned on taking my Converse, but then I thought about the amount of walking I would no doubt be doing, and decided that I needed something lighter and with a bit of an arch support.

So I bought these at the last minute, and it turned out to be a great decision. They’re so soft and light that I didn’t need to break them in, and I’ve walked through the cobblestone streets and hiked through fields and jungles in them with no problems. I know this sounds like a post sponsored by the shoes company, but it’s not (I wish); the shoes are just so awesome I have to rave about them!
