I wasn’t going to do an outfit post today, but I remembered that Kate of The Perpetual Student’s Wife is going to host a Holiday Look link-up and I wanted to contribute something, so here we go. I was looking to incorporate the holiday colors without turning into a walking Christmas tree, hence the red and white and just a hint of green. Still a little literal, but that’s OK. I’m wearing this to the Christmas pageant at my niece’s kindergarten, so I don’t have to be subtle about it.

P/S: I’m sorry for the wrinkled mess that is my dress. I ironed it, but by the time I put it on it was already like this again. I gave up.

All Dressed Up And Stuck At The Back Of The Car

#3 of 30! I wore this last Saturday because I was told we were going out. As it turned out, the trip was less of a family’s outing than a shopping trip for my mom and my sister to guy some gifts for their friends in Germany. I was crammed into the back of the car with all the bags for almost the entire time. Another member of the family who dressed up for nothing was my niece, who threw a tantrum every time my mom or my sister got out to do the shopping. She didn’t understand why we stopped and she wasn’t  allowed out (it was crazy hot outside, so it would be better for her to stay in the air-conditioned car.)

Only after I put this on that I realized this dress wasn’t the best pick for summer. The fabric is light enough, but the color is more suitable for fall. The leaf brooch probably doesn’t help either.

Dress: Target (thrifted), Belt: thrifted
Flats: Payless, Brooch: vintage

Rain. In June. In LA

It was raining behind me in these pictures. And this is LA in mid-June. To quote The Princess Bride: Inconceivable!

OK, maybe it wasn’t properly raining, but it was drizzling. And Hollywood Boulevard was pretty slippery by the time I got there (why can’t they put those Walk of Fame stars on something with a little more traction?), so there you have it.

Anyway, not much to say about this outfit except that once again, the June Gloom has foiled my plan to wear a dress as a dress. Yes, I know I can wear tights with it, but in case you haven’t noticed, I’m much more of a tunic-and-jeans person than a dress-and-tights person. Come on, it’s Friday.

Also, this shade of red kinda reminds me a little bit of the áo dài (Vietnamese national costume) uniform worn by the Vietnam Airlines flight attendants. I’ve always liked that uniform, it’s traditional yet still functional.

Dress worn as tunic: H&M thrifted
Jeans: The Limited thrifted, remixed
Loafers: Payless thrifted, remixed
Belt: thrifted via Buffalo Exchange
Necklace: self-made using this tutorial (I may have gone a little jewelry-crazy in the past week…)

This Is The Last Time

(Named after a song by Keane.)

I went to a different Goodwill today and had a pretty good haul, so this might be my last shopping/thrifting trip for a while. Here are what I got:

Let’s see now. Colored cardigans? Check. Dresses? Check. Skirt? (with pockets, finally!) Check. More prints? Check. I think I’m good.

What do you guys think? Any suggestion as to how to pair these pieces with what I’ve already got?
