I was so inspired by this week’s SIA painting, Van Gogh’s “Still Life with Irises”, that I put together two outfits. This is the first, and the second is going to be posted later in the week.
This outfit may be a little heavy on the greens and blues and a little light on the yellow, but I did it on purpose to let these socks shine. I have to confess: I picked this painting for SIA partly because of them. I got a few pairs of “famous painters” socks, but out of all of them, this painting is the easiest to interpret in an outfit, so I knew I just had to feature it in SIA.
If you haven’t sent me your outfit, there is still time! And remember to check back on Wednesday to see how the other participants did!
To all my US readers, hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving with amazing food and great people. It felt slightly weird going to work yesterday because I spent so much time on the Internet where everybody was like “Thanksgiving! Black Friday!” that I half-expected it to be a holiday here too. Anyway, I went to see Catching Fire on Wednesday night and liked it. I didn’t love it, but then again it took quite a while for the first movie to grow on me, and this book is my least favorite out of the three, so when I wasn’t bored to tears by the movie, it counts as a win in my book. Well, that and the fact that Jena Malone is awesome.
On a more style-related note, this is my last outfit for the Take One, Pass It On challenge. My outfits this round weren’t as diverse as last time, probably because it’s winter and my choices are more limited, but I had great fun with it. Big thanks to Sarah for creating such a fun challenge!

So I finally got new riding boots to replace my old pair. They’re not brown, I know, but I got sick of looking so I just grabbed the first pair that fit me. That’s my problem with shopping: I would go in knowing what I want, but I always get so frustrated with searching and not finding it, that more often than not, I end up buying something not exactly right. This pair is OK though, other than the color they’re pretty much the exact same pair I was looking at online. And they give me a good excuse to look for a brown pair next season 😀
Sweater: Target, Jacket: vintage Pendleton (thrifted)
Jeans: H&M, Boots: Vietnamese shop, Brooch: vintage
So here’s the full outfit post for my Henri Matisse interpretation. Like I said, I went overboard with the yellow a little bit, but in my defense there is a lot of yellow in that stained glass window.
I’ve had the “Do Re Mi” song from The Sound of Music stuck in my head for the last week or so because my niece has just discovered it. I’ve learned the hard way that when a two-year-old discover a song she likes, it’s worse than a radio station that keeps playing the latest viral hit. Anyway, if I have to play The Sound of Music for my niece, I prefer “My Favorite Things” or “Edelweiss”, but I’m thankful that at least she’s not addicted to “Gangnam Style” or something.
Head to toe thrifted, except for Target tights
