Lunar Holiday 06: Peach Blossoms

This outfit is a big ole pile of nothing, but I took photos of it anyway, because my sweatshirt matches the peach blossoms in our garden almost exactly.

In Northern Vietnam, a branch of peach blossoms is an essential part of the Lunar New Year decoration (in the South, where it’s too hot for peach trees, they prefer the yellow-flowered ochna plants), and there are whole villages of peach tree growers who spend the entire year cultivating and grooming their trees to make sure they blossom at the right time. This year has been warmer than usual, and most of the blossoms already faded before the New Year even began. Our tree, though, managed to hold off for some reason (we didn’t take care of it in any special way!) so we still had lovely peach blossoms for the Lunar New Year.

Lunar Holiday Capsule 02: On Wednesdays We Wear Pink

I posted this outfit anyway, even though it’s not very blog-worthy, because all these pieces are going to be parts of my holiday capsule. Plus I wanted to link up to this week’s Work My Closet challenge, which is to wear red, pink, or purple, to get into the spirit of Valentine’s Day. Now if you guys have been reading the blog for a while, you know how I feel about commercialized “holidays” like Valentine’s (and if you don’t, I have one word about them: ugh), but I’ve never been one to turn down theme-dressing, so here is my contribution to Valentine’s. Oh and eating a lot of chocolate too.

Weekly Capsule: 01.3 & 01.4

One of the reasons I wanted to try the weekly capsule is that it would help me have a more regular schedule for posting, but my Internet has been really spotty these last few days, which is why there was no post yesterday (apparently there was some broken fiber-optic cable somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Or maybe some joker decided to type “Google” into Google and broke the Internet.)

It doesn’t matter, because my last two outfits for this week’s capsule are not “blog-worthy” enough to warrant separate posts anyway. Actually, this first weekly capsule has been kind of repetitive, because they’re mostly pieces from my fall/winter capsule, so hopefully next week I can avoid falling back on familiar things and pick out some more interesting pieces.

Weekly Capsule: 01.1

Here we go, the first outfit post of the new year, and my first stab at a weekly capsule. Basically, what I’m going to do is to pick out a few pieces (I’ll try to keep it under 10, but the exact number isn’t important) enough for a week’s worth of outfits, and mix and match them within that week. It’s more or less what I’ve always been doing, and quite similar to the “Take One, Pass It On” challenge I did a while ago, just with a bit more thought and planning.

I was going to take pictures of my picks for this week, but then life got in the way (yeah, remember the 10-day break that I had? I had to use it to catch up on my assignments. Every. Single. Day. So it was like no break at all, except I didn’t have to physically go to work.) Maybe I’ll just do a round-up at the end of the week so that you guys can see how it turns out.

Full disclosure: I’m just trying this out to see if it can help me make the most out of my wardrobe. I have no idea if it’s going to work for not, so please don’t hold it against me if I get bored with it after a couple of weeks and go back to normal OOTD, without any buzzword or concept behind it.

Capsule Outfit #33

Is it hard to find a color that goes with pale pink? I’m legitimately asking, because I like this sweatshirt, but I almost always have to wear a scarf with it, and none of my scarves really go. This is the closest I could get, and even then I’m still not altogether happy with the result.

Another thing that annoys me about this sweatshirt: the “elbow” patches are absolutely ridiculous. I’ve tried to ignore it, but I can’t. I mean, look at this shit: even if I pull the sleeves down all the way, the patches would be nowhere near my elbows. Did they think elbows are located somewhere along the upper arms?

I am grumpy today, apparently.
