As I was taking photos of this outfit, I debated whether to roll the legs on these pants or not. It may look a little awkward, but if I left them down, the outfit would look a bit… not sloppy (though I admit, the pants have an elastic waist, so the entire thing is just glorified pajamas), but a bit uninteresting. Too “normal”. So in the end, I rolled the pant legs a bit to show off the lacing of the flats. It’s a little thing, but it really changed the look of the outfit and made it look better thought out, don’t you think?
Thanks everyone for your kind words about my dog. She’s doing well now. Luckily, she only got flesh wounds, and in Vietnam we have a saying that goes “A dog heals its skin, a chicken heals its bones”, which means dog’s skin and chicken’s bones are easy to heal, so it looks like she’s on her way to a full recovery.
I have two casual outfits today. The semester is officially over for the students, but there are still papers to read and grades to turn in, so I opted for something easy and breathable. I didn’t realize it until I put the two of them together, but they are actually inspired by Keira Knightley’s outfits in Begin Again, specifically these two. I’ve been getting inspirations for my summer wardrobe from that movie since I first saw it – it’s one of the few movies with realistic costumes that I can actually recreate, and it helps that her character’s style is pretty timeless too.
This is my outfit for this week’s SIA, inspired by Kate Bunce‘s “Melody (Musica)”. I tried to recreate the red-and-green color scheme of the painting with my red shoes, but ended up looking like a walking Christmas tree, so I toned it down with my pink shirt instead. It goes better with the green, and the embroideries can mimic the foliage in the painting (both the actual blossoms and the print on the lady’s dress). I would’ve stopped there, but then I noticed the necklace the lady is wearing in the painting, so my vintage-looking necklace made for the perfect outfit-completer.
You still have until Tuesday to send me your outfits, and don’t forget to come back on Wednesday to see the full round-up!
I just got this new top and pants (along with the dress I wore for SIA, and the same-fabric top) in an end-of-summer sale. I saw them on the mannequin together and decided to get both. As a rule, I try to avoid copying exactly the store’s lookbook or catalogue when styling my outfits – I don’t know why, I guess I’m influenced by Tom and Lorenzo’s aversion to “copying the runway” – but these two go so well with each other that I didn’t mind.
P/S: Don’t let the sun in this set of photos fool you, it’s actually been raining non-stop here for the last three days – these were taken last week.
