Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)

When I hear “Sweet Dreams”, the song is the first thing that pop into my head, so naturally, I have to use it as the post title. Sorry if I gave you an earworm.

Anyway, here are my outfits inspired by John William Godward’s painting, not the Eurythmics song. I put together two outfits because I couldn’t include all the elements of the painting – the green and maroon fabrics, the white, gray, and pink marble, and the animal print – in just one look. I chose these green linen pants as the base because the color is perfect, and for one outfit, I paired them with my pink T-shirt and animal print flats (it’s leopard print, not tiger, but hey, they’re both big cats), and for the other, I paired them with my white shirt, maroon monk strap shoes, and animal print belt (I think the print on my belt is zebra, actually, but it’s close enough.) I prefer this second outfit simply because I think the shirt and the shoes go together a little better, but the other is good too.

Don’t forget to check out Daenel’s blog on Wednesday to see other outfits inspired by this lovely painting!

Poppy #2

This is outfit #2 for SIA, inspired by this illustration of a Memorial Day poppy. It’s actually my original outfit, but I wasn’t too happy with it when I put it together. The pants are OK, but I don’t have any bright orange piece in my closet that can match the poppy in the illustration and I had to make do with this peach T-shirt. I figure the design on the shirt can also be a nod to the swirling lines of the poppy itself. It may not be the perfect SIA outfit, but it’s still a pretty good outfit on its own, so I decided to give it a chance.

Accessory Slump

On Wednesday’s post, I talked about feeling unmotivated to put together an interesting outfit. I think part of the reason is that I’m bored with my accessories (but don’t want to buy new ones) and don’t know how else to jazz up my outfits. Scarves are out of the question; light-weight, summery shirts don’t hold up brooches well, and sometimes you have to choose between necklaces and printed shirts. Occasionally, I would bring out my bracelet/cuff, but it always feels forced and doesn’t go well with the outfit at all – like here. Actually I wasn’t planning on wearing this cuff with this outfit, but then I was going to see Wonder Woman after work, and since I don’t have a tiara or lasso or invisible jet, I decided to play homage by wearing the cuff.

As for the movie… weeeeeeeeeeell, I’m going to be the unpopular opinion here and say that I wasn’t impressed. I think I got overhyped on it – everybody is gushing about how great it is – so I ended up underwhelmed. Sure, I appreciate the fact that it’s a female superhero movie, and I’m happy that it’s directed by a woman, but it’s… kind of boring, to be honest. I think the praises come from the fact that the bar for DC movies is set so low and this is the first decent female superhero movie (like, first ever), so it is just the thing that people want right now. It may be an important first step toward more diversity and equality in the genre, but it didn’t change my mind about the DC Extended Universe. I’m going to stick with Marvel, thank you every much. (I mean in terms of superhero movies in general. I know the portrayal of female characters in Marvel films is problematic. If I want an action film with good female characters, I’ll go with Mad Max: Fury Road.)

That doesn’t stop me from doing a Wonder Woman pose though…

Just some leftover outfits that don’t warrant their own posts because they’re kinda similar to outfits I’ve worn before. But I’ve already taken the photos so I hate for them to go to waste. Enjoy your weekend!

Fancy T

It seems this place has turned into a travel blog lately, doesn’t it? I can’t help it – I’m still riding on the high of my trip (and dreaming about my next trip), so that’s all I want to write about. Another thing is that our house and yard are being renovated right now, so it’s hard to find a good spot for outfit photos. But I’m slowly getting back to the habit of documenting my outfits, and when the semester begins for real in September, I’m sure the blog will be back to usual.

In the meantime, here’s a simple outfit – since I haven’t had to teach yet, I’m not inclined to put too much effort into my work outfit (because nobody is going to see me when I’m at my desk entering grades into the computer all day.) A fancy T-shirt – that matches my sandals! – and black pants are good enough.
