Casual Monday

After all the hubbub about the hurricane over the weekend, it didn’t turn out to be too terrible. At least it’s not so bad that our family couldn’t go out to celebrate two birthdays – my sister’s and mine. We went to a restaurant and had delicious wild boar, then the staff had to put up beach umbrellas for us to get to the car because the wind was blowing so hard for normal umbrellas. I didn’t get pictures (I have no problem with snapping pictures while hanging out with friends, I feel weird doing it with my family), but now I kinda wished I had – nothing says “storm” like dodging the rain under a beach umbrella.

Two things about this outfit: one, I should probably give these shorts a new dye job, and two, I need new sandals, because these are my only pair of casual sandals this season. But it’s always the same with me, I never realize I need the seasonally appropriate clothes until it’s too late. Oh well, maybe I can catch some end-of-the-summer sale. It’s the best time to buy anyway.

Finally, Summer

This is my submission for Everybody Everywear’s color-blocking challenge, and possibly the most summery outfit I’ve worn during my 30×30. This week is the first time that (to me at least) it really feels like summer around here. The past few weeks were just a long stretch of mugginess followed by rain followed by more mugginess. I like rain, but you know, like that Garbage song goes, “I’m only happy when it rains”, or more exactly, when it’s raining. I don’t care for what precedes and follows it. It’s still hotter than hell, but at least the sky is clear, the sun is shining, and our clothes can finally dry nicely instead of growing mold on the line (we don’t have a dryer, almost nobody in Vietnam uses one unless they own a laundromat.)

I might be standing on the burial ground of several rats here…

P/S: It started raining just as I finished typing this. Typical.

A Question Of Accessories

If there’s an aspect of personal style that I’m still struggling with after all this time, it’s accessorizing. I don’t like wearing a lot of jewelries; the only kind of jewelries I wear consistently is brooches, but they don’t go with everything. Take this outfit, for example (also, sorry it’s such a wrinkled mess.) The headband is more functional than decorative. I know some bangles or bracelets would give it more interest, but I don’t feel like wearing them. So I put this out there in the hope for some piece of advice – how do you go about accessorizing an outfit?

I guess now that I’m at home, I can always accessorize with one of our pets. The kitty may be too skittish, but our dog Taco is always happy to be included (he loves to be petted so much, he practically melts every time I touch him.)
