Jewelry

I’ve talked about my problems with jewelry many times on the blog before. For some reason, my styling effort can’t seem to include accessorizing; I can pick a scarf, but when it comes to necklaces and bracelets and the likes, I’m always stumped. After looking through my jewelry collection, though, I realize my biggest problem is a lack of style. I bought jewelry without a clear idea of what I like, so I ended up bored with them. Then, because I’m bored with them, I only reach for a few go-to pieces, like my brooches, so I get bored with those too. But now, with my personal style being more defined, and with a lot of help from Jen, who even put together an entire Pinterest board for “Salazar Jewelry Ideas” (thank you, Jen!), I’ve had a much better idea of what I’m looking for.

So this past weekend, I finally took the plunge and went to the mall to stock up (OK, OK, I went to see Guardians of the Galaxy, but I did stop by the accessory store.) I ended up buying a few necklaces and this cuff. Hopefully they will inspire me to put together some more interesting looks. My outfits have been really boring lately.

Shorts

We have a storm approaching, so it’s been insanely humid and muggy these past few days. Good thing our entire house and garden was recently sprayed with mosquito repellent, which means that I no longer have to douse myself in bug spray every time I step outside, and I can wear shorts and sleeveless tops without worrying about turning into a walking buffet. It’s timely too, because today Bri of Work Clothes, I Suppose is having her Third Thursday Thread link-up, and the theme is, you guess it, shorts.

I can’t decide if I like this better with the shirt tucked in or not though. Wait, no, actually I do. I wore it untucked, but when I got up from my desk to take pictures, I realized that the shirt tail had wrinkled like crazy, so I had to tuck it in to hide it.

After The Storm

Well, it looks like stormy season has officially arrived. We just got through nearly a week of non-stop raining and there’s already another hurricane that’s going to hit this weekend. And of course, in the middle we’ll have a few crazy hot and humid days. You know, I used to bitch about the dry heat in LA all the time, but now I take it all back. At least in LA you can count on the weather being hot and dry all the time (except for a few days in January, when suddenly everybody is like “Rain!!!” and freaks out), but in Vietnam there’s no such luck, especially in the summer. A day can start out perfectly fine and then rain comes out of nowhere, or it can start out mild and cool only to get blazingly hot later on.

All that weather talk is because I got caught in the rain while going shopping the other day. I got this shirt, which is not my style at all, but the fabric is very light and the design is simple enough that I know I’m going to get a lot of wear out of it in the summer. I just have to pair it with something vintage-inspired to make it my own.
