After two quick “grab whatever’s clean” outfits earlier in the week, I felt compelled to put a bit more effort into my Friday look. Although I might have made things more difficult for myself because this exact outfit, with a grey cardigan instead of green, would be perfect for SIA next Monday. Oh well. I’ll figure something out.
Anyway, it’s starting to feel like the holiday around here. We don’t really have a big Christmas celebration, but our poinsettias are blooming, my mom has set up a little Christmas corner out in the hall, I’m going to a Christmas book sale tomorrow, and I’ve reread and rewatched Hogfather, so I’d say yeah, we’re definitely feeling the Christmas spirit.

On Sunday I went to church with Debbi and Emma to help out at the Christmas dinner (you may wonder what a non-Christian person like me is doing at church. But for me it’s not about the religion and the worship, it’s about a sense of belonging to a community.) It was fun, the food was great, and we all had cute holiday-inspired outfits on.
Well, Emma’s outfit was not very holiday-ish, but she did have that lovely red purse, and Debbi was all modern in her black, white, and red, as opposed to my traditional red and green.
Except that now I have no idea what I’m going to wear on the actual Christmas…
Dress (worn as skirt… sort of): Modcloth, remixed

I got this dress from Modcloth’s spring sale, but it turned out to be trickier to style than I thought, because even though it’s sleeveless, the material is too thick and the color too dark for summer. That’s why it’s been hanging in my closet for the past 6 months, waiting for fall so that I can layer it.
I didn’t want to just put a cardigan over it and call it a day, so I decided to wear this shirt underneath instead. The end result is a bit more... Maria Von Trapp than I expected (hence the post title, also because of my rose-printed shirt), but I like it. Consider this an early Halloween costume 🙂
