Normally on Friday I would just put together items I still have left over from the capsule, which in this case is the gingham shirt and the black skirt, but I’m feeling a little bored with it – plus I’ve worn those two items together before – so I break the rules by bringing out this skirt. Well, I made the rules, so it would be silly if I can’t break it every now and then.
I’m also trying to get back into pattern mixing, but apparently I’m a little rusty because this outfit ends up being less than cohesive. If the my shirt was black or the skirt was blue, it would’ve looked better.

My looks this week:
This is probably the most colors/patterns I’ve worn in a while. I guess there’s something about this cardigan that just brought out the maximalist in me, even though I still try to keep the colors limited by picking the least dominated shade in the embroideries (blue).
Also, these flats are hand-me-down from my sister. I agreed to rescue them because they’re too small for her, plus they’re falling apart a little bit and she doesn’t want them to languish in her closet. They may not last pass this season anyway, but I’ll try to give them a last hurrah. In fact, all of my shoes this week are falling apart, so expect to see them on the blog a lot in the next few weeks. I’m going to wear them out all together, so I can discard them with a clear conscience 🙂

These are all workhorse pieces in my closet, so I can’t believe it took me this long to put them together into one outfit. In hindsight, maybe I should’ve added a belt or hiked the skirt higher because the wide waistband doesn’t look great for my long torso, but to hell with it, I like what I’m wearing and I’m comfy, that’s what counts, right?

Since I started the weekly capsule, my morning routine has been so much quicker. Except this morning. It was one of the few times I didn’t have an outfit laid out the night before because I wasn’t sure if it was going to rain or not (if it rained, my white pants would be out of the question.) Then I woke up at 5:30 to the deafening sound of a downpour and my mom’s scream “Your room is flooded!” See, my room has a balcony, and the rain was so heavy and so fast that the pipe couldn’t drain in time. Which means that the water poured from the balcony into my room. Again. I spent an hour scooping up water.
Suffice to say, this was the best outfit I could do in the circumstances.

Navy and mustard seems like such a natural combination that I’m surprised I didn’t put this together sooner. To be fair, it’s a direct copy of this pin of Taylor Swift – I may be missing a Starbucks cup (eww) and a cat carrier (my cats would kill me if I put them in any kind of bag or basket or cage), but it’s pretty close, right? I’m not a fan of Taylor Swift’s music, but I do like her street style.
