Happy New Year

Well, here we are, 2017. Forgive me if I’m a little wary of welcoming you. Your predecessor hasn’t been easy on us. I hope you’ll be kinder. If nothing else, at least we have Star Wars Episode VIII to look forward too, right?

Anyway, here’s a simple outfit to bring in the New Year. We don’t really celebrate New Year here (we save our holiday spirits for the Lunar New Year) so it’s back to business as usual. I don’t see my style changing much next year, but I am making a conscious choice to shop a lot less. Except for replacements, I will see if I can stop shopping altogether. I’ve been pretty good in the latter half of 2016, mostly because I’ve been too busy to actually go shopping, so I’m hoping I can keep it up in 2017. I’m not putting any pressure on myself though; if I see something I really like, I would buy it. I just have to remind myself to think more carefully about my purchase, that’s all.

Static

The Lunar New Year holiday officially starts this Friday at my school, but since my last class was on Wednesday, I got off two days early. I’m pretty sure I won’t do much during the next two weeks except to catch up on my TV shows, and that’s totally fine by me.

Anyway, I don’t usually copy celebrities’ style, but we’re having some unseasonably warm days (it’s going to cool down just in time for the New Year though, a Lunar New Year without some misty, drizzly rain for us would be like Christmas without snow), so when I saw these pictures of Elisabeth Moss at Sundance, I thought it was such a fun, recreateable look that I had to try it. Of course, I didn’t realize that the combination of tights + polyester dress + knitted cardigan on a warm, dry day would turn the outfit into one giant static ball. I must’ve zapped myself at least a couple of times.

Another thing I didn’t realize is that I had the necklace on backwards the entire time. Good thing I remember to check the close-up shot and switched it back 😛

Sweet Cold

Happy Boxing Day! I hope all of you who celebrate it had a wonderful Christmas, and if you don’t celebrate it, I hope you had a couple of wonderful days as well. As for me, I’m still crawling through the last few days of the semester (funny, the last week or so of the semester feels the same no matter if you’re the teacher or the student) and dealing with my runny nose. The weather doesn’t help either – we’re now having what we call “sweet cold” in Vietnamese, which means it’s freezing but dry and sunny, as opposed to “bitter cold” when it’s overcast and rainy. I suppose the sun is nice, except it makes my nose so dry I’m starting to get nosebleeds again.

Well, that’s enough of my miserable health. It’s been a few uninspired weeks for me, style-wise, so I tried to put together something that is more blog-worthy and still comfortable. I think this long cardigan fits the “comfortable” part, but I’m still at a loss as to how to style it so that it doesn’t look like a bathrobe. Any suggestion?
