A Whale Of A Time
Posted: November 15, 2019 Filed under: Clothes | Tags: brooch, brown, gray, gray layered sweatshirt, gray plaid baggy pants, maroon monk shoes Leave a commentI’m very excited about the cool weather – it’s sunny in the photos, but it’s actually pretty crisp – and this smiling whale brooch perfectly captures my mood (my sister just went on a trip and this is her present for me. She knows me well.) Look at how content he is! I know I’m going to whine in about a month or so when the cold snaps start arriving and the days are gray and depressing, but for now, I’m enjoying myself.
For The ‘Gram
Posted: April 17, 2019 Filed under: Clothes | Tags: black, black chelsea boots, blue, gray, gray layered sweatshirt, leather jacket, navy skinny jeans 1 CommentI’m still posting backlogged cold-weather outfits, and this particular one is nothing to write home about, so I’m going to use this post for a bit of shameless self-promotion… although, is it shameless self-promotion when you do it on your own blog? I guess not.
Anyway, here it is, shameless or not: I have an Instagram now. Actually, I’ve had it for a while, but I only use it to stalk other people (my Instagram feed is mostly travel photos, art, food, and personal style, in that order), and I’ve only been posting regularly for about a month or so. Right now it’s only an extension of the blog; I will try to post more stuff if possible. It’s just that I can barely remember to use Instagram in the first place, plus my life is not very interesting, so my Instagram would probably be mostly pet, book & garden photos (if I remember to post at all!) But if that’s what you’re interested in, drop by and say hello!
Taste Of Fall
Posted: November 23, 2018 Filed under: Clothes | Tags: black, black oxfords, brooch, gray, gray layered sweatshirt, green, green plaid pants 1 CommentHope all of my US readers had a fun (and delicious) Thanksgiving. Alas, it was a normal working day for me, and the end of the semester is quickly approaching too, so there are papers to mark, grades to turn in, and a million other things. It’s always my least favorite part of the semester, but I guess you have to get through that to reach the nice break on the other end.
It doesn’t help that the weather has been really annoying lately, hot and dry followed by cold and wet. It can’t seem to make up its mind if it wants to be late fall or early winter, which means I often can’t decide what to wear until the morning, and by then it’s either too late to take photos or I don’t feel like it. So here’s an old outfit from a couple of weeks ago, when it was nice and cool.
Wednesday Addams
Posted: November 15, 2017 Filed under: Clothes | Tags: black, black pleated skirt, brooch, brown, brown heeled oxfords, gray, gray layered sweatshirt 2 CommentsI know, I know, Wednesday Addams is supposed to be in all black, but I’m posting this on Wednesday, so I’m allowed to stretch it a bit, right?
I do admit though, this would look better with black shoes. However, since my black heels broke a couple of months ago, I have tried in vain to search for a replacement pair. Either the heels are too high (I can’t handle anything over 3″ these days), or the material isn’t right, or the shape isn’t right, or (this is the most common reason, *sighs*) they’re too expensive. Apparently, finding a pair of basic black heels isn’t as easy as I thought.
Angel Applicant
Posted: October 23, 2017 Filed under: Style Imitating Art | Tags: black, black chelsea boots, brooch, gray, gray jeans, gray layered sweatshirt, style imitating art 5 CommentsBelieve it or not, I was actually wearing this outfit when I got Erin’s email about this week’s SIA inspiration – “Angel Applicant” by Paul Klee. That’s what I call serendipity.
Of course, because I put the outfit together before I got the email, some details don’t quite match – like my bow brooch, for example – but the rest of it, from the sweatshirt to the jeans and the boots, is spot on, if I do say so myself.
P/S: I can’t believe I didn’t make the connection before, but between the gray color and the title “Angel Applicant”, the figure in this painting really reminds me of a Weeping Angel. If you don’t know what that is, I suggest you watch “Blink”, one of the most terrifying and arguably most famous episodes of Doctor Who. I promise you’ll find yourself looking over your shoulder at every stone statue you see afterward.
