For my last look in the week inspired by the female characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I chose Darcy Lewis, Jane Foster’s sidekick from Thor. Actually my style is closer to Jane’s, which is more utilitarian and less cutesy than Darcy’s, but Jane usually wears a plaid shirt and my one plaid shirt is in the wash, so Darcy it is. This is probably the loosest interpretation of all the outfits, but it still has all the elements of a Darcy outfit – layers, boots, a comfy coat, a scarf, and a beanie. I wore my maroon cardigan to mimic Darcy’s maroon beanie, and chose my stripes-and-stars scarf because it looks comic book-y somehow. Yes, this is similar to the last time I wore this coat, but… eh. I don’t care. When you run a personal style blog for nearly 5 years, you’re bound to repeat outfits sometimes.
And that concludes my Marvel-themed week. That was just what I needed to refresh my wardrobe. And the fun part? With some tweaks, I’d have my costumes for next Halloween!
Yes, I know she’s wearing a dress here
Cardigan & Boots: local shops, Jeans: Mango, Coat & Hat: H&M, Scarf: gift
And my looks this week:
That title sounds like a particularly messed up 50 Shades fanfic, doesn’t it? (I mean, the books themselves started out as fanfics, but I’m sure there are fanfics of it. There are fanfics of everything.)
Anyway, I titled the post so because it’s a freezing gray day here and I didn’t feel like wearing any color, apparently. I had thought about adding a brooch or something to the coat, but in the end I didn’t, because I actually kinda like the neutral color scheme. Also because I had reached the “coughing off a lung” stage of my sore throat, so I couldn’t be arsed to do anything interesting with my outfit.
Sweater: United Colors of Benetton, Jeans: Mango, Boots: local shop, Coat and Hat: H&M
And here are this week’s looks:
Yes, I wore these black jeans five days in a row to see if anyone noticed (no one did) – which goes to show they’re a really good basic, staple piece to have.
It’s another week here at Style Imitating Art, so let’s take a look at the interpretation of Jacques-Louis David’s Portrait of Louise Trudaine from all of my lovely blogger friends.
First up we have Rebekah of From the Mixed-Up Files, looking all ladylike:
Next up is the ever-awesome Pao of Project Minima:
Then we have our co-host, Vivienne of Thrifted Shift, in a simple but spot-on outfit:
And finally it’s me. I didn’t intend to wear the hat and jacket, but soon the cold and rainy weather of Sa Pa demanded them (not that I’m complaining. I love it.) I do find it funny, though, that everybody was in all these flowy, feminine silhouette, and I just went with the colors instead.
Shirt: Forever21, Jeans: Target
Scarf: Icing, Boots: Payless
This is my submission for this week’s wear*it Wednesday, “Winter Hats” (click to see how the other lovely ladies style theirs.) I had thought about getting a felt cloche – Target has some really cute ones – but in the end, I figured I didn’t really need it. I don’t wear hats that much, so this knit beret and my deerstalker cap are plenty.
I’m trying to cut back on shopping. This is because on Monday I reorganized my entire closet and found things I had completely forgotten that I owned (like this pair of jeans, for example). So I decided I should wear things I already have, before putting new stuff in. It’s not a shopping ban, strictly speaking (I don’t do so well with restricting myself entirely), more like a shopping diet. Which is why I might still get one of those Target cloches if they go on sale 😛
Shirt: H&M, remixed
Jacket & brooch: vintage, thrifted
Boots & scarf: Target
Boot socks/legwarmers: old socks that have stretched, with the feet cut off
Post title: song by Kasabian. The scarf is almost neon yellow, so I thought it was an appropriate title
As long as the weather stays cold like this, I’m going to fail this course of adding colors to my wardrobe, because I don’t have any colorful winter clothes (well, to be honest, do I really have any colorful anything clothes? No.) I’ve been looking for a colored cardigan at thrift stores (I’m determined not to buy new clothes anymore), but so far I haven’t any luck.
Anyway, to explain today’s post title, just take a look:
Flannel? Check. Plaid? Check. Work boots? Check. A chunky knit beanie? Check. And to top it all, a man’s scarf. Seriously, the only thing missing is a chain saw.
I swear it’s not intentional! But it was raining today, and I was afraid that my usual boots don’t have enough friction on the heels to keep me from slipping (I’ve done that before), so I wore these instead. Or perhaps I was subconsciously influenced, because yesterday one of my classmates pitched an idea for a lumberjack comic book 😀
Coat: Forever21, remix
Jeans and beanie: H&M
Shirt/tunic: Urban Outfitters
Boots: thrifted from Little French Flea Market
Scarf: my dad’s 😛
