The Floral Enterprise

I finally went to see Star Trek: Into Darkness today. You know what the best part about waiting for 2 weeks and then going to see it in the middle of the day is? There was nobody sitting in front of me, so it was like I had the theater all to myself.

As for the movie, I liked it, but a little less than the first one. And I was probably the only one in the audience who got all the nods to The Wrath of Khan – the original Star Trek is not that well-known here, and I only know Wrath of Khan from references in other stuff. I am no Trekkie, not by a long shot! Benedict Cumberbatch is awesome though (then again, when’s he ever not?) Also, it was a little weird seeing the Getty Center as the Starfleet HQ, because it’s so familiar and instantly recognizable, and yet it’s not used as an iconic landmark. It’s like seeing my own street on screen or something.

Serendipity

Day 3 of 30 Days of Dresses! This outfit is another result of hanging two pieces of clothes on the same hanger (which I’m surprised that not a lot of people do. And how it sets off OCD. My own brand of OCD is more concerned about a million hangers cluttering up the closet.)

I think this dress is quickly becoming my favorite. Polka dots, drop waist, the ability to whisk me into an I Capture the Castle fantasy… what’s not to love? The only problem that it’s polyester, which means I can’t wear it in the summer. Also it’s a bit loose on me. For this I tried pinning it back with a brooch; I imagine it would look better without the zipper, but I like the idea.

Raindrops On Roses

I got this dress from Modcloth’s spring sale, but it turned out to be trickier to style than I thought, because even though it’s sleeveless, the material is too thick and the color too dark for summer. That’s why it’s been hanging in my closet for the past 6 months, waiting for fall so that I can layer it.

I didn’t want to just put a cardigan over it and call it a day, so I decided to wear this shirt underneath instead. The end result is a bit more... Maria Von Trapp than I expected (hence the post title, also because of my rose-printed shirt), but I like it. Consider this an early Halloween costume 🙂

Color Coordinated Or OCD?

Tunic (usually belted) + skinny jeans + boots has been my go-to outfit formula for a while, but I never thought to pair it with booties until I saw a girl at work wear something similar. I like the silhouette, but I’m a little iffy about the details – namely, the colors. Like how the green of the print doesn’t match the teal/green of my jeans and how the tan of my boots is darker than the tan of my blazer.

So what do you guys think – is this a case to apply my OCD about matching colors, or does it work?

Books, Sandwich & Writers’ Group

About a year ago (was it a year? Six months? I honestly don’t remember), I was introduced to this wonderful used book sale at the local library by my friend Debbi. It is the reason why I have to store books in shoe boxes under my bed now (no joke! I don’t even have the space in my room for an extra bookshelf anymore.) And ever since then, it’s been our monthly routine of going to the book sale then hitting a nearby diner for lunch afterward. Now we added to that routine a Writers’ Group meeting, where some of us will get together and set deadlines for each other to keep us writing (but it’s more an excuse for us to hang out now that we don’t see each other in school anymore – not all of us take the comic book writing class.)

Anyway, pictures:

Books and Debbi and ham and cheese grilled sandwich 😀

It’s a weird selection of books, I know. I forgot to include a coffee-table book about France too. But hey, I got it all for $4.50, so I’ll continue to go to the book sale and continue to store books under my bed.

And my outfit (pic taken by Debbi):

Smiley enough for ya?
