It’s Easier With Hoover

Here’s my outfit for this week’s SIA, inspired by the French poster for Hoover vacuum cleaners. I’ve known right away that I’d wear these pants – they’re not bright orange like in the poster, but they’re the closest I have. The blue striped shirt and navy loafers are also easy choices, to mimic the touches of blue and navy in the poster. The green and yellow bits took me some thinking, but then I remembered this green scarf with yellow and orange print – perfect!

Don’t forget to check Kim’s blog on Wednesday to see other outfits inspired by this poster.

B.I.M.

No, not BMI (Body Mass Index), but rather BIM – Big Important Meeting. Yes, I just came up with that acronym. I had a Big Important Meeting at work, meaning I had to dress a bit more “seriously”. Usually, I would just throw a blazer on and call it a day, but it’s still too hot for that, so here’s the best I could do – summer business casual. Of course, I couldn’t let go of my usual touches altogether, so I added a brooch too.

Bonus – here’s my dog, having fully recovered from her ordeal earlier in the summer. You can’t even see the scar underneath her fur!

Try Again

This is my second attempt at the “blue outfit with paper bag pants and red accents” after my first try didn’t turn out so well. I like it better because the vertical stripes make this shirt look less billowy that the other one, but it’s still a little looser than I’d like, and by the end of the work day, it had pretty much come untucked.

I have never seen the appeal of the bodysuit before, but now I’m seriously considering buying one because it drove me crazy trying to fix the tuck all day long. Unfortunately (or, fortunately, if you look at it from a financial standpoint, because I do not need more clothes), all the bodysuits I see in store look like swimsuits and not like normal tops, so I don’t think I’ll be buying one yet.

Casual Ravenclaw

Despite my online moniker, I am a Ravenclaw through-and-through – in fact, in the early days of the Internet, I went by Rowena, as in Rowena Ravenclaw, but then I decided that it was too feminine for me. Probably because I associate the name with Lady Rowena in Ivanhoe.

Anyway, this outfit was a no-brainer, but when it came to titling the post, I was stumped. That usually happens to me when the outfit is simple or too “obvious”, as there is not much to talk about and I can’t come up with a snappy title. Then, while browsing Pinterest, I came across a board for clothes inspired by the four Hogwarts Houses and the title just popped into my head, since I was wearing the Ravenclaw colors – blue and bronze (well, my brown boots can count as bronze) – and there is a preppy touch with the striped button-up and the cable-knit sweater.

Of Course

We just had our first real cold snap this past week, but the weather was absolutely hideous (raining all day, bitter wind) and it was dark all day so I couldn’t take outfit photos. So here’s an old outfit from when it was still warm. It’s one of those “duh” outfits (hence the post title) that all the pieces go so well together that I almost didn’t wear it because I thought it’d be too predictable. But it works, so why not, right?
