Pink Heels

My sister convinced me to buy these heels at an end-of-summer sale. I tend to stay away from such conventionally feminine things, especially when it comes to shoes, and these are the most conventionally feminine shoes ever – the pink color, the heels, the Mary Jane straps. If I do wear heels, they’re usually more basic than that. But I agreed with my sister that I need to branch out a bit, and besides, these heels are low enough that they’re pretty comfortable to wear. I’m looking forward to cooler weather so I can pair them with some of my more masculine pieces like boyfriend jeans and blazers – because I’m all about keeping the balance between feminine and masculine in my style.

B.I.M.

No, not BMI (Body Mass Index), but rather BIM – Big Important Meeting. Yes, I just came up with that acronym. I had a Big Important Meeting at work, meaning I had to dress a bit more “seriously”. Usually, I would just throw a blazer on and call it a day, but it’s still too hot for that, so here’s the best I could do – summer business casual. Of course, I couldn’t let go of my usual touches altogether, so I added a brooch too.

Bonus – here’s my dog, having fully recovered from her ordeal earlier in the summer. You can’t even see the scar underneath her fur!

Last Of Winter

It’s the last of my backlogged outfits, hurrah! Unfortunately, it also means we’re also saying goodbye to winter… for a long, long time. Summer is really here, and while this year I’m actually looking forward to summer thanks to my new style resolutions, I’m still not keen on the heat and the humidity.

As for this outfit, I’m still trying out these black cropped jeans. It’s funny, they’re much more basic than my wide-leg paperbag pants, but for some reasons, I’m having a much harder time styling these. I kept going back to simple, monochromatic looks. I actually wore red shoes with this outfit at first, but I switched them to black because the red was so focus-pulling. But my black pumps didn’t go either, and it was only when I wore this pair to balance out the jacket that I felt the outfit was just right.

Untrendy

I’m not a very trendy person, style-wise. I mostly wear what I like regardless of trends. However, I can’t escape trends altogether, especially when I live in a place still ruled by fast fashion. So my approach is to look at what’s currently on trend and see if any of it can fit into my style. Unfortunately, the most prevalent trend right now seems to be 90s revival, which, no offense, is hideous (my most obnoxious teenage years were spent in those styles; I don’t need to see them again, thank you very much.)

That said, there is one current trend that I can get behind – the wide-leg pants. I’m still holding on to my skinny jeans, but as the weather starts warming up, I want a looser silhouette. So far you’ve seen the wide-leg khaki pants I wore for SIA a couple of weeks ago, and here is another pair. I’m not sure if the blazer works (it’s too long and too boxy), but I’ve gotten a few compliments for this outfit from my students and co-workers, so I must be doing something right.
