Last Day Of The Semester

As I said last week, I had to sit in on the screenwriting thesis committee, so this is what I wore. At our school, the thesis defense is just a formality – the thesis is a script, which is judged by its own merits and not by how well the student defends it – but the students can still be quite nervous, so we try to keep it light and not too nerve-racking for them. Which is why I wore something simple, so it’d look like just another day in the classroom… if the classroom is actually a conference room and there are 5 teachers instead of one. Yeah, I don’t blame the students for being nervous.

Poppy #1

This is outfit #1 of my interpretations of this week’s SIA, inspired by the botanic illustration of a Memorial Day Poppy – I was so inspired that I actually put together two different outfits for SIA! It wasn’t my intention; I already had an outfit lined up, but by a stroke of luck, I found this floral-printed tee, and its colors and graphic prints are so perfect that I had to build another outfit around it. I finished the outfit with these green pants (naturally) and strappy black sandals to echo the black-and-white butterfly in the illustration.

Outfit #2 would be posted on Wednesday, so stay tuned! And don’t forget to check Jen’s blog for other interpretations of this illustration.

The Cow Jumps Over The Stars

My outfits are still relatively jewelry-free, but during my trip to Germany, I picked up this really cute silver pendant on sale and decided to start wearing it every day. I like the idea of having a “signature” piece of jewelry that you always wear – my mom has this delicate gold horse-shoe pendant that she always wears as far back as I can remember, so when I see that shape I always think of her – but I’m terrible about wearing jewelry, so I’m hoping that this can help me get into the habit.

Of course, a cow may not be as classic as a horse-shoe, but it’s more “me” 🙂

Black And White Galaxy

This week’s SIA is a tough one for me, because it has all these colors and movements that I had no idea to interpret with my closet of mostly neutral and structured pieces. Then it hit me – the title is “Galaxy”, and I have a star-printed tee that could work. It’s in black and white, but when does that ever stop me? So I put together a black and white outfit – my shirt has the stars for the “galaxy” part, and my skirt has all the brushstrokes and movements from the mural. It works out pretty well, does it, even though it doesn’t have all the colors of the original piece?

No Jewelry

I’ve been feeling disinclined to wear any jewelry lately. Mostly it’s because the tops I’m wearing are pretty attention-grabbing on their own (like this fish-print blouse), so any brooch or necklace would just clutter up the outfit. Besides, I’m getting bored with all of my accessories, but don’t want to buy any new one. Also, it’s really hot and muggy these days and I just want to put on a shirt and be done with it (to the point I didn’t even bother changing my jeans + sandals pairing.) It’s going to change in the fall, I’m sure, but for now I’m going to stick to a “minimal jewelry” look.
