Capsule Outfit #19

As you can see from my post yesterday, we just had a cold snap. Well, maybe not exactly “cold” at 75 degrees. For us that’s positively chilly though. It won’t last long – it’s going back to 80 around Wednesday – so I’ll bring out the cardigans and sweaters when I can.

Sorry for the short post, but I’m neck-deep in scripts (November is always a busy month for us, I don’t know why). Bye!

I’m really happy that for this week’s SIA, I could stick to my capsule wardrobe. The inspiration painting, “Two Women at a Window” by Baroque artist Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, has mostly neutral colors, so I just had to add a pop of red to mimic the bow at the young woman’s bust, and I’m good. And of course, I had to mimic the two women’s expressions in my photos too 🙂

Big thanks for Jen for picking this lovely piece. Don’t forget to drop by her blog to see other interpretations of this painting!

After the warm and humid spell last week, it looks like we’re settling down to some pretty nice fall weather, even though I always insist that we don’t have much of a fall here. The temperature is still in the 80’s, but the air is dry and crisp, sunny during the day, but you actually have to wear a light jacket (or at least a long-sleeved shirt) in the morning and at night. That means that I could wear my skirt + ankle boots combo for a while longer. It’s quickly becoming my uniform this fall, and I am totally okay with that.

Let’s just see how long this weather lasts. Knowing myself, I would complain of the cold the moment it drops to below 75, so I’ll try to enjoy this when I can 😛

Capsule Outfit #4

I have to admit that I picked this week’s SIA inspiration, “Tilted Spheres” by Richard Serra, because I knew I had the pieces I need for it in my capsule wardrobe. I said I would be flexible when it comes to SIA and my book-inspired outfits, but it’s only the first week of my capsule, so I thought I’d stick to it as much as I could.

Anyway, I had planned to wear my Chelsea boots with this, but one, it was too hot; and two, Chelsea boots + knee-length skirts is not a good combination for my short legs. So I had to wear these heels. They’re not as edgy as I’d envisioned the outfit to be, but they’d do.

There is still time to send me your interpretation of this sculpture, so hop to it (if you want to, of course), and check back here tomorrow for the round-up!

Another way I’ve made things more difficult for myself with the capsule: because most of the pieces I picked are work horses in my closet, which means that I’ve worn them a lot and am running out of new ways to style them. Now shoes are the one thing I can rely on to make an outfit look different. Take this one, for example. I’ve worn it before, just with different shoes. It’s still pretty warm today, but the humidity is a bit better, so I say, F*ck it, I’m wearing boots. I guess I could wear this with my heeled oxfords too, but I have been waiting to wear these boots for over a month now (they’re the replacement for my trusted Steve Madden ankle boots) and I feel like oxfords can make the outfit look frumpy, while the boots give it an edge.

P/S: Apparently something about this capsule wardrobe is bringing out my foul mouth. But then again I curse pretty freely in my everyday life (always in English though, somehow it sounds less nasty than cursing in my native language), so maybe this is just bringing out the real me.
