King Of The Jungle

Here’s my outfit for this week’s SIA. I must admit, I picked the inspiration, William Morris’s Woodpecker Tapestry, because of this blazer, but hey, it’s my prerogative as the host, right? I’ve been feeling velvet this fall/winter, and the print of this blazer is the perfect combination of vintage and whimsical – my style sweet spot – so when I saw it at a vintage shop, I knew I had to snatch it up. For the rest of the outfit, I keep things simple, with shades of green, black, and brown.

If you haven’t sent me your outfit, you still have until tomorrow. And don’t forget to check back on Wednesday for the round-up of other outfits inspired by this tapestry!

Gold

Here’s my outfit for this week’s SIA. This amazing gold blazer is another of my score from raiding my mom’s closet, and when I saw it, I immediately knew I had to wear it for SIA. It’s perfect for the last act of the Triadic Ballet, with its black background, gold costumes, and round shapes. The post title is also a reference to another ballet – Spandau Ballet, in this case. (OK, so it’s not an actual ballet, but come on, “Gold” is one of their most famous songs, how can I not use it, right?)

If you haven’t sent me your outfit, you still have until tomorrow. And don’t forget to check back on Wednesday to see other outfits inspired by this ballet!

Mom Clothes

I just raided my mom’s closet this past weekend and found a bunch of goodies – several blazers (here is one of them) and a gorgeous brocade scarf (here it is.) Without access to a well-stocked thrift store, this is the closest I can get to thrifting. The good news is that my mom had an extensive work wardrobe, which she doesn’t wear anymore now that she’s retired, plus she has great taste so a lot of her things are timeless classics.

Perfect Condition

The last few days before the Lunar New Year (and during the holiday, in fact) were unseasonably warm and dry, fall-like instead of spring/winter, so I was able to change up my outfit formula a bit. It’s the most “blog-worthy” outfit I’ve worn in a while, even though it’s not that different from my usual formula of sweater + coat + jeans. At least the shirt and blazer are a nice change and the brooch is fun, and everything works together instead of feeling forced.

It just further proves the cliche that all style bloggers love the fall. When it’s too cold or too hot, I have to focus on staying warm/cool, so there isn’t much room for sartorial creativity. This kind of weather is perfect (even if it’s unseasonal.)

A Drop Of Sunshine

This is it. I have reached peak-gray. I was going to wear this gray turtleneck with my leather jacket, but when I saw that it exactly matches my gray coat, I had to pair them together. I almost wore my charcoal gray jeans as well, but even I had to decide that would be pushing things too far (plus those jeans aren’t as warm as these black ones, and it was a freezing day). I added my yellow enamel brooch so I wouldn’t look like a walking concrete column, which… kinda worked, I guess?
