Waistcoated

Last fall/winter, there was one item of clothing that I searched and searched but couldn’t find: the waistcoat. I’ve wanted a waistcoat since seeing Jo’s costumes in the 2019 adaptation of Little Women, but as hard as I searched, I couldn’t find them anywhere, since they’re not exactly the trendiest of items. Then, at the end of the season, just as I was ready to give up the search, I came across not one, but two shops that sell waistcoats! By then, most of the nicer ones were sold out, though I still managed to grab a few. It’s almost too warm now to wear them, but I couldn’t wait, so here’s a floral one to make it more seasonally appropriate. I’m looking forward to the end of the year to wear the others, and perhaps to add some more to my collection!

Winter Footwear

I think one of the reasons I’m in a style rut this winter is just my choices of footwear are so limited – just my three pairs of boots, and the ankle boots I really shouldn’t wear anymore. And then it occurred to me: I pick my footwear according to what kind of pants I’m wearing, and since I only wear skinny jeans with the occasional skirt or dress with tights, of course I’d only wear boots. So today I dug out my old flare jeans to see if it would inspire me to pick something else… well, oxfords are not that far out of my comfort zone, and I’m not exactly jumping up and down about this outfit, but at least it’s a different silhouette.

Orange Is The New Black

So I didn’t dress up as Mako Mori for Halloween after all… because I don’t have anywhere to dress up for. Which is too bad, because I had the costume all worked out too – blue highlights, combat boots, black pants, t-shirt and jacket with a Pan-Pacific Defense Corps logo, clipboard, and a red shoe wrapped in handkerchief for good measure. Oh well, even if I did dress up as Mako and went to a party here, I doubt anybody would’ve recognized it. In Hanoi you can only find big Halloween events at night clubs and such, which is not my thing at all. I much prefer to hang out with a small group of friends, but it being a week day and I live so far away from everybody, it’s not going to happen.

In the end, I decided to celebrate Halloween in a lamer way with an orange + black outfit. And a double feature of Hotel Transylvania and ParaNorman later tonight.

Casual Monday

After all the hubbub about the hurricane over the weekend, it didn’t turn out to be too terrible. At least it’s not so bad that our family couldn’t go out to celebrate two birthdays – my sister’s and mine. We went to a restaurant and had delicious wild boar, then the staff had to put up beach umbrellas for us to get to the car because the wind was blowing so hard for normal umbrellas. I didn’t get pictures (I have no problem with snapping pictures while hanging out with friends, I feel weird doing it with my family), but now I kinda wished I had – nothing says “storm” like dodging the rain under a beach umbrella.

Two things about this outfit: one, I should probably give these shorts a new dye job, and two, I need new sandals, because these are my only pair of casual sandals this season. But it’s always the same with me, I never realize I need the seasonally appropriate clothes until it’s too late. Oh well, maybe I can catch some end-of-the-summer sale. It’s the best time to buy anyway.

Winter Uniform

It was one of those days. You know, the kind of day when you stand in front of your full closet thinking “I have nothing to wear.” It’s ridiculous, even more so in my case because I have nowhere to go and thus it doesn’t matter what I wear. But I want to look at least like a functioning member of society instead of who I really am – a hermit who goes on Imdb to look up a movie reference, telling myself it’s for “work”, and ends up spending two hours on tumblr and Pinterest. So I reached for something that I know would work: button up, sweater, skinny jeans, and boots. Now I only need to figure out a go-to outfit for the summer…

What’s your go-to outfit?
