Here’s my outfit for this week’s SIA. This amazing gold blazer is another of my score from raiding my mom’s closet, and when I saw it, I immediately knew I had to wear it for SIA. It’s perfect for the last act of the Triadic Ballet, with its black background, gold costumes, and round shapes. The post title is also a reference to another ballet – Spandau Ballet, in this case. (OK, so it’s not an actual ballet, but come on, “Gold” is one of their most famous songs, how can I not use it, right?)
If you haven’t sent me your outfit, you still have until tomorrow. And don’t forget to check back on Wednesday to see other outfits inspired by this ballet!
Despite the rain you see in the photos, it was actually a bit too warm for this sweater, but I’ve been waiting to wear it since I got it, so excuse me for being a little overeager. What I really like about it is the neckline – it’s not a turtleneck (which should be fitted around the neck), and it’s not a boatneck, but more like a combination of the two. It’s a small detail but it adds a lot of interest, I think. I can’t wait to wear it more when it gets properly cold.
I called this outfit “Working-class Professor” because the top half, with the turtleneck and the blazer, reads “professor”, while the bottom half, with the jeans and Chelsea boots (complete with mud-caked soles) reads “dock worker”. But the entire look goes together, so it doesn’t matter.
Excuse me for the short post, but I have “Avengers: Endgame” to catch. I’ll be back next week with my thoughts!
I’m still posting backlogged cold-weather outfits, and this particular one is nothing to write home about, so I’m going to use this post for a bit of shameless self-promotion… although, is it shameless self-promotion when you do it on your own blog? I guess not.
Anyway, here it is, shameless or not: I have an Instagram now. Actually, I’ve had it for a while, but I only use it to stalk other people (my Instagram feed is mostly travel photos, art, food, and personal style, in that order), and I’ve only been posting regularly for about a month or so. Right now it’s only an extension of the blog; I will try to post more stuff if possible. It’s just that I can barely remember to use Instagram in the first place, plus my life is not very interesting, so my Instagram would probably be mostly pet, book & garden photos (if I remember to post at all!) But if that’s what you’re interested in, drop by and say hello!
One thing I forgot to mention in my Style Personas post is that I’m also moving toward different silhouettes – you may notice that none of my “key pieces” includes skinny jeans. I’m not letting go of skinny jeans forever, of course – you will have to pry them from my cold, dead hands – but I’m beginning to feel that skinny jeans aren’t the most comfortable thing to wear anymore, and I’m at that age now when comfort trumps style. So I’m looking for looser fit and combinations I wouldn’t have thought of before.
Like this outfit, for example. A few months ago I wouldn’t think of pairing this leather jacket with these pants, but now I quite like it. Of course, it’s still a work in progress so some outfits may work better than others, but I’m having fun, and that’s all that matters.
