Spring In October

I think from now on I would have to include a short line about the weather in each outfit post (temperature, condition, etc.) This is more for my reference. See, sometimes I have to travel to a different climate and want to pack the right clothes, but because the climate is Hanoi is so extreme, I would often forget how to pack for 50-degree weather, when it’s still 90 degrees here (like when I went to Germany in September) or vice versa (like when I went to Singapore in February.) And looking at my archives doesn’t always help, because I would find wildly unseasonable outfit like this one. It was actually from a couple of weeks ago, when it was supper muggy before a storm, so it didn’t feel much different from spring/summer.

Cloud 9

Believe it or not, the starting point for this SIA outfit, inspired by the space tourism poster of Venus, is my necklace. Doesn’t it look exactly like the design of the ” Cloud 9 Observatory” on the poster? After that, it’s just a matter of grabbing the pieces with the right colors – no blush or millennial pink for me, but these tan wide-leg pants and my sandals are close enough, I think.

Don’t forget to check back on Wednesday for the full round-up of all outfits (and some other things) inspired by this poster. It’s going to be fun!

Weekend Wrap-up

Just some leftover outfits that don’t warrant their own posts because they’re kinda similar to outfits I’ve worn before. But I’ve already taken the photos so I hate for them to go to waste. Enjoy your weekend!

Fancy T

It seems this place has turned into a travel blog lately, doesn’t it? I can’t help it – I’m still riding on the high of my trip (and dreaming about my next trip), so that’s all I want to write about. Another thing is that our house and yard are being renovated right now, so it’s hard to find a good spot for outfit photos. But I’m slowly getting back to the habit of documenting my outfits, and when the semester begins for real in September, I’m sure the blog will be back to usual.

In the meantime, here’s a simple outfit – since I haven’t had to teach yet, I’m not inclined to put too much effort into my work outfit (because nobody is going to see me when I’m at my desk entering grades into the computer all day.) A fancy T-shirt – that matches my sandals! – and black pants are good enough.

Rosy Roses

This outfit is one of the few times I break my self-imposed rule of not wearing two girly items together (i.e. no lace top with pink skirt, that kind of thing). Since I don’t have many downright “girly” clothes, that usually isn’t a problem. But this top and this skirt are so appropriate this week’s SIA – “The Roses of Heliogabalus” – that I couldn’t pass them up. And of course, the sandals are the perfect finishing touch to mimic the Roman sandals.

P/S: Last time I wore this skirt I said I was going to shorten it, and I did try pinning it up to see how it’d look, but after some consideration, I decided I like the longer length.

Don’t forget to drop by tomorrow for other interpretations of this painting!

I’m Melting

The weather has been annoying as f*ck lately. I know I say that a lot, especially during this time of year, but consider this: last week it rained so much it turned my school into a literal island and everybody got a day off, because you’d need a boat to get there. And then this week it got so hot that a local airport had to be closed because the runway’s asphalt was melted. See what I mean?

Naturally, with weather like that, I tried to go outside as little as possible, so outfit photos didn’t happen. Besides, there wasn’t much to document anyway – most days I’m just in a T-shirt and loose linen pants. Only today, when it’s cooled down somewhat, that I could put some thoughts into my outfit and come up with something relatively cute.

Surviving May

Put this meme under “Things Only A Teacher Would Understand”:

I can totally relate to that. I’ve been a TA/teacher for three years now, and every year, as the end of May rolls around, I begin counting down the days until vacation starts. For the students the semester actually ended last Friday, but of course for us there is still plenty of work left. I had to sit on the thesis committee yesterday, and a stack of scripts still wait on my desk to be read and graded. Hopefully I can get everything done by the end of the week.

This will be one of the few breaks when I don’t have anything to catch up on – I’ve finished my latest translation, and my weekend film making workshop will also be done by the end of June. On the other hand, I have a pretty exciting trip planned for the summer (I will tell you guys about it in due course), so there is that to look forward to.

In the meantime, I’m staying comfy in these casual clothes.

P/S: I waited until after Memorial Day to wear white. Am I a good style blogger or what?
