Weekly Capsule 37.1: Cats, Big And Small

navy shirt khaki pants leopard flats by 14 shades of grey

Back to the old grind! This is not the most interesting of outfits, but it was the Monday after I got back from my trip, so I was still too tired to think of anything more blog-worthy. I only knew that I wanted to show off my Singapore souvenir – this cat brooch, which I bought from DulcetFig (the shop with the cat, of course) in Haji Lane. They have a lot of pretty vintage brooches, but so expensive! I had to remind myself that I can find similar ones on Etsy for 1/10th of the price. In the end I got this cat brooch (not vintage) because not only it has the same colors as one of my cats, but it’s for a good cause too – the proceeds will be donated to a cat shelter. Win-win.

Then, because my feet were still sore (gods, I need to start exercising again if a mere 3-day trip to a city – hardly what you’d call physically demanding – can reduce me to such a hot mess), I chose these flats. And also because they’re sticking to the feline theme. Theme dressing, that’s what I’m good at.

Weekly Capsule 20.4

(no subtitle on the post because I’m drawing a blank today)

See, this is what I’m talking about when I said in yesterday’s post about not wanting to pair girly items together. I much prefer this outfit – sure, the jeans could be more high-waist, but they’re just the right touch to balance out the fussy details of the top. Speaking of which, I really need a new pair of boyfriend jeans. When your jeans are getting see-through, it’s time to replace them, right? (OK, maybe they’re not cheese cloth’s level of see-through, but I can see through them when I hold them up to the light. You aren’t supposed to be able to do that with jeans.)

The thing is, these didn’t start out as boyfriend jeans, believe it or not. They were skinny, but somehow got stretched to the perfect boyfriend fit, and now I’m afraid I can’t find that fit on actual boyfriend jeans. Well, better start looking, I guess.

And my outfits this week – I guess the theme is “eyelet top and one unrelated dress because of SIA”:

Weekly Capsule 20.2: Uncovered

white eyelet top black pants leopard flats by 14 shades of grey

We got some rain over the weekend, so it’s been blessedly cool this week, meaning it’s in the lower 90’s instead of nearing 100. It also means that I can bring out my sleeveless tops – I know, sounds like an oxymoron, but it’s actually better to cover up when it’s sunny out. In Vietnam during the summer, pretty much the only people you see wearing shorts and sleeveless tops are tourists. The locals (especially the women) are all in these long-sleeved robes designed to block out the sun and the dust. I don’t wear it because my commute is only 15 minutes on the bike, but sometimes even I feel like I need one.

P/S: The outfit was a direct copy of this (the tumblr is lovely, I only wish the blogger would take more outfit photos, because her style is adorable). I should’ve won a necklace too; this pin is cute, but it’s tiny – I’m pretty sure it’s a tie pin – so you can barely see it.

Capsule Outfit #14

When I first bought this lace t-shirt, I was excited about how versatile it is, but it seems I’ve worn it with nothing else but jeans and flats. Maybe when it gets colder I can pair it with cardigans and jackets and boots, but I’m reluctant to pair it with skirts or heels, because I feel that would be too “girly girl”, and that’s not me at all. It just goes to show, you never know how something will fit into your wardrobe until you experiment with it. But then again, even with just jeans and flats, this shirt still gets more wear than plenty of other things in my closet, so I’m not complaining.

Capsule Outfit #3

Just something quick and simple for Casual Friday. Even if it is always Casual Friday when you work at a liberal arts college.

Also, you guys may have seen all this grass on our front yard in the photos lately – no, we don’t have a cow, it’s just being dried for our chickens in the coming winter. Our home feels like a farm sometimes, but we’re not that committed 🙂
