Girl With A Pearl Brooch

My outfit for this week’s SIA, inspired by Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring”, took some thinking. Not because I don’t have any piece in my closet that fits the painting, but rather because I have too many – blue and black are the two colors I have the most, and yellow is one of my regular accent colors. In the end, I went with this gold taffeta blazer because the color and the shine of the fabric look like the robe of the girl in the painting, and I paired it simply with black jeans, a white sweater, and a blue silk scarf. For the “pearl” part of the paining, this Art Nouveau-esque brooch is the perfect finishing touch.

This is a wonderful interpretation. I cannot believe how unbelieavably perfect that jacket is for matching hers- the taffeta looks like it has been painted in brushstrokes! Super impressive! The way you have layered the scarf is very clever and of course, a classic Salazar delicate, perfectly proportioned brooch!

BAM! You hit it out of the ballpark. Who has a gold blazer just hanging around in their closet?? YOU!! I love it so much. I like the way the rest of the outfit is quietly subdued and allows the blazer to take its spot, front and center. Stunning.
I have upped my brooch game just a bit on your good influence. Have inherited from my mom similar piece to the one you are wearing here. Silver with pearls. Need to get it out so I remember to wear it more often.
