Tricolor
Posted: October 4, 2017 Filed under: Clothes | Tags: blue, navy cropped pants, red, red slingbacks, white, white short sleeve shirt 2 CommentsWhen it comes to color combinations, red, white, and blue is pretty much a classic, isn’t it? As I was putting this outfit together (well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. “Putting this outfit together” mostly consists of me ironing the shirt), I was struck by how many countries have red, white, and blue flags. I know that the flag of France, for instance, was official adopted after the French Revolution, so the three colors stand for Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, but I have no idea about the other countries. And, even in the case the French flag, how did those colors come to symbolize these ideas? I did some Googling, but there is no definitive answer. The only thing I could glean is that there are so many tricolor flags because of colonization (for example, all the former British and Dutch colonies also have red, white, and blue flags).
You know what, I bet it’s just a case of some person looking at these colors and thinking, “Hey, they look nice together.” Like I did with this outfit 🙂
We have quite a few books about flags at the library, particularly in the children’s department. Every so often, while I’m working in that particular area (geography/history section), I like to flip through those books just to see all the different kinds of flags of the world.
You’re right in that many countries seem to have adopted the whole tricolor concept and not just in red, white and blue. It would be cool to study the history of how all of these flags received their colors and what they represent. 🙂
Great outfit as always Salazar!
Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. The red shoes are perfect with this look!
