Weekly Capsule 20.3: Negatives

eyelet top polka dot skirt beige sandals by 14 shades of grey

I remember a few weeks ago talking about how I always try to balance classic/feminine and quirky/minimalist pieces in my outfits (how I wouldn’t wear a lace shirt with a skirt, for example). Now this is an example of an outfit that I wouldn’t normally put together. The eyelet top already has its quirky details, so the polka dot skirt almost seems too much. But the eyelets on the top and the dots on the skirt look like negative image of one another – even though one is square and the other is round – that I think it would be fun to pair them together. It also helps that I keep my shoes and accessories really simple.

  1. This skirt twirls really nicely. Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style

  2. LOVE this combo! Really subtle pattern-mixing. And even though you could argue each piece is “girly” or “feminine,” both the top and skirt have really strong, angular details that provide an interesting twist. The top has the wider shoulders that look modern and architectural, while the skirt has those strong box pleats.

  3. These is a really pretty look!! The top is great! Thanks for linking up with us for Passion4Fashion!
