The Sound Of Her Wings

When I pick a piece for Style Imitating Art, I usually have a specific piece of clothing in mind, something that I can use to recreate the painting. I don’t plan the whole outfit, because in the week from when I post the inspiration to the deadline, something always comes up – the weather turns colder or warmer, I have a better idea, an early submission gives me a better idea, etc. This time, though, I did have this entire outfit in mind when I picked the inspiration, the cover for Sandman Volume 1, #8, “The Sound of her Wings“, and I wore it exactly. The coat is a no-brainer; the dress is a hand-me-down from my sister, the silhouette is not really my style, but it works – I really can’t imagine Death (Sandman‘s Death anyway) in a fit-and-flare dress, can you? The scarf and the brooch is to mimic the white and soft greenish blue of the cover, and of course the brooch can be an ivy leaf if you squint a bit. The only thing I wish I could recreate is the ankh… oh well, that would be too on-the-nose I guess.

Remember, you still have until tonight to send me your outfit, and come back again tomorrow for the full round-up post!

Your look perfectly captures the cover, and works really nicely as a look. The dress is a great color, I’m curious to see what it looks like on its own!

  3. I love seeing a more fitted dress on you! Different, yes, but you still look just as lovely.
