The First Thrift

Happy 2014! My first outfit post of the year couldn’t be more basic, but it’s still noteworthy because this coat is actually the first piece I thrifted ever since I moved home. Thrifting here is less common than it is in the US, not because we don’t have thrift stores, but because there is no system like Goodwill and the various consignment stores. Here the shops actually ship their stuff in from other places and you just have to dig through piles and piles of stuff hoping you will find something great and not just a cheap old knock-off. Most of the time you’re better off buying new anyway, because it’s not that much more expensive. Still, just like thrifting in the US, sometimes you do hit gold. Some of my co-workers are quite committed thrifters, so I joined them on a shopping trip last week and came back with this coat. I was drawn to the deep green color – I don’t have enough of that in my closet – and the slightly military-inspired feel. Hey, all I need is a loose greyish shirt, and I could dress up as Ichabod Crane for next Halloween (alas, my hair will never be as glorious as Tom Mison’s though.)
