A Question Of Proportion

Just a simple outfit to end the week. I want to wear shorts more often in the summer, but I tend to reach for a long-sleeved shirt (or at least 3/4 length) when I’m wearing shorts, and in the summer that’s just not practical. For some reason I find pairing a short-sleeved shirt with shorts kind of… awkward-looking. I’ve tried it a few times before, and the proportion always looks off to me. I think the long-sleeved shirt balances out the shorts much better. And don’t even get me start on sleeveless shirt with shorts. Others can pull it off, but on me it will looks like I forget to put on proper clothes. Is it because of how my body is shaped, or is it entirely in my head?

Shorts and a tank top might not look “put together” enough to satisfy your personal aesthetic? How do you feel about flutter sleeves? I like that they offer me coverage for my shoulders while staying very cool in hot, humid weather.

I’ve never tried flutter sleeves before. It’s not because I don’t like my arms though, it’s just my weird sense of proportion. It’s the same reason I wear boots with tunics – tunics with flats or even heels just look unbalanced to me.

I’m with you. It’s either the proportion thing or the fact that one needs “sleeves” somewhere – either as pant legs (or skirt length) or as actual sleeves.
Or maybe it’s about coverage? Like a certain area of body needs to be covered (and in that sense it *is* about proportion).
Whatever the reason, your outfit looks well balanced to me! That brooch is unexpected but it adds the final touch.

I also really like the look of either short pants OR short sleeves, but when it’s hot, practicality outweighs the preferred aesthetic. I think you can wear shorts with a sleeveless shirt so long as the shirt is a blouse and not just a T-shirt.
