Weekend Round-Up: Harry Potter Weekend

The title has nothing to do with the post really, it’s just that I’m watching the HP Marathon on ABC Family. Plus I dressed up as a Slytherin on Wednesday.

Lesson of the Week: Not a lesson per se, but an issue I need to clear up. I’ve been asked, twice now, if I really wear the outfits I post on the blog. And the answer is, Uh, yes? Why would I post about an outfit that I didn’t wear? But I guess it’s the problem with style blogging – when you put so much thought and effort into your clothes, sometimes it comes off as dressing up and not everyday wear.

Blog of the Week: And speaking of somebody who manages to always look put-together yet never over the top, here’s the lovely Ana of Better In Sepia. She’s super nice, and I’m in awe of her simple yet eye-catching outfits.

Book of the Week: “When We Were Orphans” by Kazuo Ishiguro. This is an author whose works I’ve seen in movie adaptations (The Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go) but never read. When I picked this up at the book sale, I guess I was expecting a more straight-up detective novel (the narrator travels back to Shanghai, where he was born, to investigate the 30-year-old case of his parents’ disappearance.) But I should have known better – it’s just another depressing story of memories and recollections, and the mystery isn’t revolved in a satisfactory way at all. The writing itself is lovely, but the story doesn’t pan out as I’d hoped, so into the donation pile it goes.

Song of the Week: “Walcott” by Vampire Weekend. This is what I called “preppy indie rock.” I’m surprised that Wes Anderson hasn’t used their music as the soundtrack for any of his movies yet. They’re probably too cheerful for him 😛
