Blue And Yellow

If this dress looks familiar to you, it’s because I bought it from Elaine of Clothed Much (that sounds like a title, doesn’t it? Like Katherine of Aragon or something.) I know I said I would cut back on shopping, but I’ve been drooling over it ever since I saw it on Clothed Much, so when I saw it on Elaine’s Smashion store for $5, I had to snatch it up. And in my defense, I also got rid of a bunch of clothes.

As I start paring down my closet to prepare for the move home, I realize my clothes are pretty compartmentalized: I have my blog-worthy clothes, then my hanging-out-with-friends clothes (which are a little more casual), then my errand-running clothes (mostly old stuff I brought from home), and finally what I wear to bed (mostly hand-me-downs.) So my goal now to make my going-out clothes just as nice as blog clothes and get rid of all the errand clothes (good thing they’re all old and gross so even my hoarding tendency can’t justify keeping them.) Only then can my style truly evolve.

Old Friends

When I first put together this outfit, it looked so familiar that I had to actually go through my archive to make sure that I didn’t wear it before. I didn’t. It’s just that I used a lot of my workhorses in this – the skirt, the cardigan, the boots, and the belt are all favorite pieces. I’m also wearing a dress as a top, which I did a lot during my 33×33 Remix but haven’t done in a while, so the ABC’s of Style challenge, “X for X2″ – as in one item times two – gave me the perfect opportunity to revisit the idea.

Also an old favorite that I haven’t done in a while – a floating picture:

Jinxed

Today’s Winter Edition challenge prompt is “Embrace a Trend”, which is ironic since I went with what I’m most comfortable with. There are some trends here, though: chambray shirt, boot socks, or stripes (which is apparently a trend, at least according to Freckles in April’s inspiration post) – take your pick. I totally forgot to include the ABC’s of Style challenge though – “H for Hat or Headwrap.” It would’ve come in handy, since it was crazy windy when I took these photos.

To my defense, I was a little distracted. First thing yesterday morning, I discovered that my bike seat was stolen. After a few minutes throwing expletives around, I walked to a bike shop to get a new one. Guess what, they went out of business. I didn’t know because it’s been a while since I went that way. Then, later, I found out that my package from Modcloth was missing. The tracking page said it was delivered, but it was signed for by someone I don’t know and my neighbor didn’t see anything. So now I’m waiting for FedEx to sort it out… hopefully they can either find it or I can file a claim with Modcloth to at least get my money back. And on top of that, the place where I freelance for just dumped a huge load of work on me – not that I’m complaining, but it’s another annoying thing on top of everything else. Seriously. Did I offend some Gypsy witch or something?

Cowboys And Indians

So “Phoenix Song” was wrapped last night, a big success. Everybody was great to work with and we finished early every day (this almost never happens!) Now it’s just a matter of waiting for the finished product (which is going to take some time, since the original song for it is still being composed), but I’m sure I will be able to post it here once it’s done.

While working on the shoot, I always tried to wear something functional – i.e. it lets me run around taking pictures, but is still cute enough to befit a wardrobe coordinator. This is what I wore yesterday, but I couldn’t sneak off and take outfit photos (I’d feel weird doing that even during the break), so I wore it again for photos today. Gross? Just a little bit :P

Oh and the brooch was given to me by one of the actresses, when she found out that I collect them. Isn’t it awesome?

“After All This Time?”

I’m pretty proud of this outfit, as I made two of the pieces myself, using the tutorials I posted in my round-up on Saturday – the detachable Peter Pan collar (I made this plain one to practice first, and I’m making the faux fur one right now. It just takes a long time because I had to hand-sew it), and the painted sweater.

I’ve wanted a Silver Doe Patronus shirt ever since I saw this, so I searched around for a stencil and found it here. Although… now that I’ve looked at the shirt again, I feel I should’ve written “Always” on the back instead of the front. I like the graphic tee quality with the word on the front, but I think it’s less on-the-nose if it’s on the back. What do you think?
